Through no fault of his own, this beautiful 52 lbs. Staffordshire has found himself all alone in the world. As handsome as they come, his smile is truly ear-to-ear as he sports the true to breed ‘alligator mouth’ when smiling. Great with every dog he’s met, this five-year old sweet heart lived with an elderly person who now is in a nursing home. And, all his medical has been kept up to date so he is a healthy lad.

Michael lived peacefully in a home for his life with a small Shih Tsu and the two got along great. He and his sister remained in the house after their Dad left for about three weeks. Michael’s caregiver, an elderly neighbor, has been feeding and caring for him and takes him into the yard to be tied out and enjoy a little sunshine. The heat WAS left on in the home after their Dad left for the nursing home; so, the pets were comfortable.

He loves car rides and has no idea how he ended up leaving the place he knew as home. Michael has kept a clean kennel and walks well on leash. If you are interested in meeting this super handsome, very friendly, affectionate fellow, please submit an application. https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1912079&name=Michael

Super handsome and friendly Nash came from a local shelter. Weighing around 38 lbs., this golden boy knows ‘sit’ and loves his treats. He is a lab/hound mix

While Nash walks fairly well on a leash, he needs a little work; however, he learns quickly so this should be easy. This perfectly sized pet is estimated to about two years old and made rapid friends with every dog he met at the rescue.

If you are interested in meeting Nash, please submit an application. https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1912066&name=Nash

Umka (aka Polar) Pupdate from his wonderful Dog Mom:

Hello all the wonderful hoomans at Godbey Creek Canine Rescue! Happy New Year from me, Umka! I just wanted to tell you that I am doing great ! Everyone loves me and plays with me and teaches me tricks and takes me for car rides. I even get to play with a kitty cat sometimes. In the field. And I got to meet my coozin Elon who is very big golden boi. But I was a gooder boi than Elon and I got to teach him how to behave. And mommy takes me to the mountains and the beach. And for long walks. And buys me my favorite treats. Also I became famous this year! I won WFDD photo of the week and so now my picture will be on display at SECCA museum in Winston Salem the entire month of January. And also on museum in Greensboro and in Boone but I forgets their names. You should come and see and vote for me! Here are some of the pictures from my recent adventures.

Thanks for rescuing me! May you rescue more doggoes and puppoes in 2024!

COURTESY POST FOR a sister rescue.

Little Ms. Luna is a playful, sweet miniature poodle. Weighing 10.8 pounds and born 7/2022, she is a year and a half old. She's friendly with other dogs and all humans, and good with children. She loves to run in the yard and is especially fond of sleeping next to her human in a big bed. She does NOT like to sleep in a kennel, preferring to be with her human in their bed. She does adapt easily and loves to cuddle. She's active but will quiet down if she has enough exercise. Luna is a dog that would do well in agility training. Because Luna is an active girl, she does require a FENCED YARD. She is just a great all around dog.

Luna is current on all vaccinations, has been spayed, is crate trained and house trained. If you'd like to meet Luna, please submit an application.

Vanilla Pudding aka Pudding aka “Nilla” arrived as an undernourished, very thin and extremely hungry girl. Little did anyone even begin to guess that the following day this 'rail thin' beauty would deliver four lovely babies, all of which are alive and thriving, thanks to our conscientious and doting caregivers.

Sweet Nilla is an excellent mom who is estimated to be about five years old. In addition to preparing and always nesting her bed, Ms. Nilla is attentive, watchful and ‘standing at attention’ when we move the puppies to be weighed every few hours. Still, she stays with her babies every step of the way from the bed to the scales and back. She’s always patient and loving and never ugly or reactive to the babies being handled; and she remains attentive until the pack returns to their bed. And, she's licking nad thanking the caregivers constantly. When this wonderful mom is ready to go outside for her bio break, she appreciates a little privacy when ‘doing her business’. Of course, she’s always ready to return to the quadruplets.

Since Nilla has been busy tending her little ones, we have not introduced her to other dogs or our "test" cat so we don't yet know how she gets along with them.

Both mom, who is eating heartily four times a day, and the babies are steadily and slowly gaining weight.

Follow Nilla and her babies as they grow and expect these newborns to be available in January.

If you are interested in meeting 'Nilla, please submit an application. https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1881757&name=Vanilla+Pudding+(%27Nilla)

Birch (aka Bruce), a shelter dog from Davie County Animal Shelter, enjoyed his first Christmas with his new family. Birch’s favorite holiday appetizer was the sausage balls but he also loved his new toys. Life could not be any more perfect for this handsome fellow as he gets plenty of snuggle time and now gets to sleep in the human bed with mom & dad. We are so proud of and happy for Birch and so very thankful that this wonderful family adopted this very special pet. Happy Holidays!

We've gotten some much better pictures of Ziva since she first arrived. You can see what a stunning girl she is.
Beautiful, sweet Ziva was picked up in the middle of the road late one night. Weighing in at 45 lbs, this pretty girl is estimated to be between 2-3 years old and is great with other dogs.

We are working on Ziva’s leash manners but she is responsive to ‘come’ and is learning to take treats more gently. If chocolate is your color, this 45 pound girl may be a perfect companion for you. Ziva loves to ride and likes to be near her human but it is just as content to play with her canine buddies. This girl has slept indoors for ten nights and has been perfect….no accidents and sleeps throughout the night quietly on her dog bed. She goes right into her crate without being asked twice and loves to ride in the car. This girl has no doubt been someone’s pet in her short past life. Ziva is NOT cat friendly and does have a prey drive.

If you are interested in Ziva, please submit an application. https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1898299&name=Ziva

UPDATE: We've received MANY applications and will be reviewing them and working through the process in the next few days. The process may take a bit longer due to the holidays. We are no longer accepting applications.

We are scratching our head at why this perfectly beautiful, well behaved, leash trained and highly responsive Labrador Retriever was surrendered.

Two year old Nona is the consummate labrador retriever and is a perfect companion to her human. She meets new humans with the same happy tail response known and expected from the lab. This shiny coated girl is housetrained, crate trained and loves absolutely nothing more than to spend time with her human which always includes the next car ride. If allowed, she would love to sleep in your bed but, she is also content and listens well when you have her sleep on the floor nearby.

Nona gets has been introduced to over 12 dogs and gets along perfectly with all of them. This seventy pound girl isn’t much on playing ball or retrieving as she is intent on watching her human and being nearby her human less she miss a head scratch or a pat on the head.

ONLY submit an application is you are interested in and available to be a full-time companion for this lovely lady. Nona is too good to go into an apartment or to go into a home without a human nearby most of the time. This is what she craves more than anything else.

If you are interested in Nona, please submit an application: https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1898273&name=Nona

Our staff is crying tears of joy for three very special Christmas miracles this holiday season. We especially thank our Christmas angels for helping these humble souls along life’s journey. Thank you also to all our faithful donors for making these and other pets lives a reality. And, last but not least, thank you to our veterinarians, their staff and the kennel caregivers who helped these sweet souls every step of the way.

Harvey has found a wonderful foster home and has his very own warm, soft and safe bed for these cold winter nights. We are so thankful this sweet soul can rest and take it easy. He will have lots to recover from. As his feet, bones and infections improve, he will enjoy plenty of love, warmth and companionship from his sibling canine and his new foster family! They will continue to be there for him during his road to full recovery from all he's endured.

Toni has been adopted by the perfect family and has become the best snuggle companion as she enjoys sleeping with her very own humans this holiday season. This family has the magic touch for helping her through her senior years.

Hans is warm, safe and well loved with his foster family as he scoots up close to his new canine siblings. With one leg repaired, his mobility has already improved and he is enjoying a few running jaunts!

Our hearts are truly full.

We have male and female Norwegian Elkhound four-month-old pups. These stunningly handsome playful pets are true to breed and adore their humans; they are affectionate in every way. While the babies are learning their manners quickly, they don’t yet have leash manners but will shortly. Spending their days frolicking in the sunshine and running in their playlots, these babies are ready for a new home. The perfect home will have a fenced in yard and preferably parents who, respect and understand the breed and their characteristics.

This post includes photos of three of the puppies, Uno (F), Dos (M), and Tres (M). These cute-as-can-be puppies are on the move so much, it's been a challenge to get some good pictures. We keep trying. They can be separated and go to different forever homes.

If you are interested in meeting these beauties, please submit an application https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1892477&name=Unos+or+Dos

Willie is an adorable little 15 pounder who has led a charmed life and has been very well cared for. At ten years old, this senior finds himself alone and without his human mom who passed away suddenly. After being with his human mom nearly his entire life, we know this little fellow misses her. Still, his attitude and outlook seem positive and we are intent on finding this cutie pie the right home. We have been told by his foster mom that he can be grumpy at times and may growl but never bites.

This handsome Havanese mix doesn’t shed, walks well on leash, is fine being picked up and enjoys his visits to the veterinarian and the groomer. He loves car rides, has a quiet personality and, while he is good with other dogs, he doesn’t really play with them. Willie will chase a cat if they run away. Otherwise, he ignores them.

If you believe you have the right home for this little guy and would like to meet him, please submit an application.

Sweet, gentle, and humble Harvey came to Godbey Creek after we responded to a pet in a dire situation with a local shelter. This easy going fellow will warm your heart like nothing else this winter season can do. He thoroughly enjoys good food, takes his meds without any complaining, and can hardly wait to curl up in his new soft and comfy bed. We think he is between 2 and 4 and he weighs 47 lbs, although he needs to add weight since we can clearly see his ribs and hip bones. Unfortunately, Harvey has experienced severe trauma during his short life, and he is currently recovering from an array of injuries and ailments.
Nearly all of the pads on Harvey's rear feet have been torn off, replaced by sores. He also has a large, painful sore on one ankle. Most of the toes on his rear feet are down to only one segment instead of the normal 3. The veterinarian inspected the X-rays and stated the missing toe parts are not due to a birth deformity but a result of severe trauma. These foot injuries make it painful for Harvey to walk.
Harvey’s gums also show metal staining, indicating he was trying to chew his way out of something (kennel, cage, or leg hold trap). He is fighting infections in his gums, both ears, and his a**s. He has tested heartworm positive, has Lyme disease, is anemic, and is dealing with tapeworms. And before all this happened to him, his hip was broken in the past and not repaired, so it has healed in a way that leave him with an awkward, stiff-legged gain.
Thankfully, with the help of antibiotics and other medications, rest, and lots of love, Harvey is beginning to heal. His sores are healing nicely, his ear infection is almost gone, and the other infections are responding to the medications. His front feet are fine, and he has plenty of teeth left to be able to eat enthusiastically. Heartworm treatments will have to wait until his other medical problems clear up.
None of these challenges has caused Harvey to lose his sweet disposition and his love of life. He just needs the basics of a good meal, a quiet place to rest, a soft bed to lay his head, and of course, love. Surprisingly, Harvey has kept a perfectly clean kennel and knows to take his business outside. He’s very cordial and gentle when meeting other pets and his expressive eyes are constantly saying "thank you".
The ONLY ASK this holiday season for this wonderful hound is for someone to foster or adopt Harvey and welcome and comfort him as he spends time healing.

12/16/2023

Lovely Alena is an even tempered, beautifully groomed Great Pyrennes who has enjoyed her indoor life of being spoiled by her doting humans. Sadly, it is time for Alena to find new humans who will love and care for her as much as that to which she been accustomed. This smart girl, who turns four years old in January, knows the basic commands of ‘sit, stay, inside, bye bye and come’. And, she’s capable of learning much more. Standing by the door when it’s time to go outside, this housetrained girl enjoys her bio break time and, in the mornings, shows her enthusiasm with a few minutes of zoomies after she potties.

Hugs, rubs and being near her human are the favorite things she enjoys most……she jumps up to see you when she’s excited and loves lying next to her human when all is quiet. And, she does especially enjoy being a couch potato. Bananas and dog cookies are her favorite treats but what really excites her is a good, long walk in nature. As with many ladies, this girl realizes the necessity of good grooming and stands quietly to be bathed, to have her nails trimmed and to have her coat groomed. At 77 lbs., she’s leash perfect. And, she needs a home large enough to accommodate her size as she’s an indoor girl and not a farm dog. In exchange, a nice bark alerts you when she hears a noise outside.

Ms. Alena is sometimes anxious in a new environment and does resist going to the veterinarian. She will bark at people who come into the house, is a little shy of children and, while she gets along fine with small dogs, she is intimidated by large breeds. We want her to have a fenced in yard and her new family with have some type of job for her so she can help around the home. After all, she is a working breed dog. Still, she likes to call it a day and relax with her humans as soon as they are home! And, she’s been spoiled with good food, lots of love and a special family to call her own. Now, it is time for Alena to go to a new home.

Please research the breed before you come to meet Alena. If you are interested in meeting this girl, please submit an application.
