❤️❤️ Adopt Splash! ❤️❤️

Hello! My name is Splash, and I'm a distinguished 13-year-old, four-paw declawed, black male cat with a heart full of love to give. Life has been an adventure, and I'm now looking for a forever home where I can spend my golden years in comfort and companionship. My beloved owner was no longer able to care for me, and I lost the only home I’ve ever known - I am hoping for a second chance. I’ve lived with dogs and cats before, so might be able to do so again as long as they respect my space. The grandkids loved visiting me!

I’m a gentle and affectionate soul who adores attention. I am a BIG boy at 19 pounds! There's nothing I love more than curling up in a cozy cat bed or lounging in a warm lap. I have perfected the art of relaxing, and I'm a master at finding the best spots to soak up the sun or enjoy a peaceful nap.

My likes are: Being petted and cuddled, belly rubs, sunbathing by a sunny window, gentle playtime with toys, and testing out different cat beds (it's a hobby of mine!). Did I mention I am 19 pounds? I can definitely fill up a cat bed or your lap! My dislikes are: Cold weather (I prefer warm snuggles!), going to the vet, and being alone for long periods of time.

I'm seeking a loving home with humans who appreciate my laid-back personality and enjoy spending time pampering a senior cat. I would do best in a calm environment where I can receive plenty of affection and attention. A sunny spot for sunbathing and a comfy lap for snuggling would make my purrfect day!

I'm in good health for my age, though regular veterinary check-ups and a balanced diet will help me stay happy and healthy. I was declawed on all four paws as a young cat, but please don’t hold that against me. I may take a little time to adjust to new surroundings, but with patience and love, I'll quickly become your loyal companion. If you're looking for a seasoned feline friend who knows the finer things in life (like the perfect nap position), then I might be the purrfect match for you!

⭐️ Cat of the Day - Mooch! ⭐️

Mooch: 1-year-old male

This handsome little boy is Mooch! He was brought to NAWS after being found as a young stray and is now waiting to find a safe and loving home. Mooch might be a bit reserved initially, but his gentle nature shines through once he feels comfortable. He loves getting pets and will reward your patience with lots of affection and snuggles. Like most young cats, he is curious.

Mooch would thrive in a calm and patient home where he can continue to build his confidence. He would benefit from a gentle approach while he adjusts to his new home. He needs love and attention to help him grow into the confident cat he is meant to be.

❤️ Where are our tortie fans? ❤️

We have some amazing tortie cats waiting for adoption right now. We know we can find the perfect match, with just the right amount of “tortitude” for you!

Ice Cream: This 1-year-old girl was a great mama to three kittens despite being basically a kitten herself! She is sweet, snuggly, and affectionate. She loves sitting in the laps of our volunteers.

Gretchen - She is a 2-year old beauty that is friendly and very agreeable. She is amazing tolerant of her two silly kitty friends that share her tower, so we think she would be fine in a home with other cats. She is gentle and curious.

Candy Corn - Check out this long-haired, 6-year old beauty! Give her a little time to get to know you, and you will be fast friends. She will seek out pets and attention and will likely be an amazing couch companion.

Bella - If you are looking for a sweet tortie kitten, please consider this 8-month-old Girl. She is gentle, petite and loving. She is great with other cats.

Maple - She is a beautiful 8-month-old girl that didn’t get the memo about tortitude! Instead, she is incredibly sweet, outgoing, and affectionate. She loves attention and pets. She is good with other cats.

⭐️ Cat of the Day - Talack ⭐️

Talack: 1-year-old male

This handsome boy is quite charming and ready to win a place in your heart. After being rescued as a kitten with his littermates from a high kill shelter in Kentucky, he has grown up in a foster home. His foster states that he is a well-mannered, sweet and playful young boy. He can be a bit timid at first, but it does not take him long to warm up - he is then friendly and loving to everyone. We have no doubt he will build a special bond with his adopter.

One of our long term dogs, Etta is out enjoying the sunshine today!

Etta is still available for adoption and has been waiting for a home to call her own for two years now. Etta is currently in a foster home. Here is what her foster mom has to say..

“Etta is truly the sweetest girl! I cannot for the life of me figure out how she is still waiting for a home. She loves everyone she meets, has a fun and goofy personality, gets along with most dogs, prefers no kitties but does well with a chill cat, and is completely potty trained! Etta is a 3 year old terrier mix who has a very abusive past. But that doesn’t stop her from being the sweetest girl. She lived with kids and did very well with them, she just needs someone who has a more active lifestyle! A fenced in yard is a bonus for Miss Etta since she is pretty strong on the leash, but she will walk well with the right harness. Someone give this girl a chance!”

We invite you to come to the NAWS Campus located at 9981 W. 190th St., Suite A, Mokena, IL, this Sunday, June 23rd from 11:00am - 3:00pm. Come meet your new furry family member (or two)!! We have some of the most adorable, social, lovable cats and kittens looking for homes and families to call their own. They are sure to steal your heart and bring positivity to your life. Many of our fosters will be on hand to answer questions about the cats and kittens they so lovingly care for. We are confident we can assist you in finding one that will be the perfect fit for your home!!

Bring a carrier with just in case you want to adopt, as all adopted cats must leave the building in a carrier. If you don’t have a carrier with you, a temporary, cardboard carrier can be purchased for $8.

We highly recommend submitting an application ahead of time and obtaining pre-approval so that all you have to do the day of the event is pick out your newest furry family member(s)!! Adopt one kitty and save two lives; adopt a pair and save four lives, your new family member(s) and the new cats NAWS can take in!! You can complete and submit a Cat Adoption Application on our website at www.nawsus.org.

⭐️ Cat of the Day - Buttercup ⭐️

Buttercup: 1 year old female

Meet Buttercup! She is a beautiful young female that was found as a stray with her two sisters. After spending some time in a foster home, she is now ready to find her forever home.

Buttercup is a sweet girl and beautiful girl. She can be a bit timid in new environments, but will warm up with a little patience. When comfortable, she loves to play with all types of toys. She likes wand toys, but also likes to bat mice or balls across the floor. She likes to sit in the window and watch the birds. She is chatty. She is not quite a lap cat, but likes to sit next to her foster on the couch. She loves to be around other cats.

❤️ Give a home to a senior kitty! ❤️

Tahiti is looking for a safe and loving home to enjoy his golden years. It is an incredible feeling to give a home to a cat that is vulnerable and deserving - please consider being this sweet boy’s hero!

Tahiti is 10 years old. He was rescued from a local animal control. We do not know the circumstances that caused him to be homeless, but it is obvious he has been around people during his life because he is friendly. He desires gentle attention.

Tahiti came to NAWS in need of some care - he was very thin and suffering from an upper respiratory infection. We are happy to report that he has gained weight and received medicine to feel better. He was missing several teeth and his remaining ones needed to be extracted due to severe dental disease. He undoubtably is more comfortable now and he loves wet food! He is the type of cat that grabs a place in our hearts and won’t let go - he has been through a lot and it just makes us even more determined to find him a good home.

Tahiti will likely bond with his people and be a very devoted companion. When he was moved to the adoption floor, this little angel cried for the caretakers that helped him when he was sick. Imagine the gratitude he will feel towards the adopters that get him out of our busy rescue setting!

Join us and a few other awesome rescues as we take some of our pups out in hopes to get them a forever home! You may just meet your new best friend!

❤️ Adopt Ori! ❤️

Beautiful little Ori is still waiting to find her forever family. She is a few weeks away from turning a year old, and she would be thrilled to be in her forever home by then. After being found as a young stray, and spending time in a foster home, this little lady is ready to share her love.

Did you know that only about 20% of orange tabbies are females? Ori wants to remind you that she is a “rarity” and that you should adopt her! She is cute, tiny, silly and sweet. Ori is playful and full of kitten energy - she gets the zoomies at times! She loves toys, especially string toys. When done playing and exploring, she will snuggle up to her foster to rest.

Ori can be a bit reserved around new people, but once she gets to know you, she will share her personality. She becomes more trusting each day. She now enjoys receiving a lot of pets and scratches on her chin, neck and down her back. She waits at the door for her foster to come home and will plop at her feet wanting attention.

⭐️ Cat of the Day - Squiggy ⭐️

Squiggy - 9 month old male kitten

Meet Squiggy! He is an adorable little male kitten that was rescued with his brother - he has been living in a loving foster home while waiting to be adopted. According to his foster, Squiggy is a little lover! He is always jumping on his foster and rubbing his face on her. He likes to lay on her while she sleeps. He also enjoys playing and is a fun and active kitten! This sweet boy is going to bring a lot of love to his forever home.

❤️❤️❤️ Adoption stories are the BEST stories! And they are even better when they are about a long-term, harder-to-adopt animal. Please enjoy Eri’s story and celebrate her happy ending with us. Remember to give the shy ones a chance. They need love too.

In the words of her foster/adopter:
“ Eri spent 2 years in a cage at NAWS rejecting our attempts at winning her over. When I brought her home last November, her cage card still had nothing written in the "personality" section even though she was one of our longest term in-house cats. She spent another couple months in her cage in my house still rejecting human interaction, but slowly started showing interest in the other cats, who were cage free and showing interest in her.

I started opening her cage for a few hours every day while I'd sit in the room. She stayed hidden in her pillowcase. One day, one of my very social cats, Flipper, climbed into Eri's cage with her. I was very nervous about this invasion of her space especially when Eri popped out of her pillowcase and went right to Flipper. To my surprise, Eri was making little chirps and started rubbing on Flipper. They then ran around together shoulder to shoulder for several hours. I started leaving Eri's cage open all the time.

By February, Eri was exploring the whole house and coming to greet me in bed every morning. She still didn't allow anyone to pet her, but would sit on me or lie next to me. She loves to cuddle with the other cats, loves to birdwatch and loves to play with toys. She still dislikes human hands but will rub against me if I sit still and keep my hands down.

This weekend I decided to adopt her because she isn't going to do well in meet and greets and is going to need a lot longer to learn trust. She's already spent 962 days at the shelter and 202 days in foster, so now she is no longer waiting. This morning I held my hand out to her as I do every morning, but this morning she finally rubbed her cheek on my hand and let me pet her. It only lasted about 20 seconds. It took her 2,164 days - 3 years, 2 and a half months - to trust for 20 seconds. She finally feels safe enough. Or maybe she knows she's finally home.”

❤️ Hozier ❤️
Hozier….you sweet boy. He had a meet-and-greet today along with two other cats. They were both adopted, and through no fault of his own, Hozier was not. They were just a better fit for the household. So how did Hozier handle the rejection? He decided to go into the adopter’s carrier, and plop down - he wasn’t going to take no for an answer and was determined to go home! We admire his confidence (and stubbornness), but we needed to explain that HIS forever family is still out there and should be coming for him soon.

Hozier is a 1-year-old, long-haired male that was rescued from a local animal control. He is quite chatty and if you visit him at NAWS you will likely get an earful of how perfect he thinks he is for you. He likes other cats, but as a young boy, he likes to roughhouse. Other kitties in the home would need to be comfortable with his somewhat obnoxious but fun style of play. He is confident, curious, and very outgoing. He loves toys and lots of pets and attention. He is an awesome cat that is very ready to find his happily ever after!

⭐️ Cat of the Day - Tucker ⭐️

Tucker: 4-year-old, front-paw declawed male

Meet Tucker! This gorgeous boy was rescued from a shelter in Kentucky where he was on the euthanasia list. He made the long trip north to save his life and to have a chance at a loving home. Tucker is quiet and friendly. He waits patiently for visitors to stop and see him and he likes pets and attention. He is even starting to trust us enough to roll over and get belly rubs. He is a good boy that is ready to be someone’s best friend.

We are in need of support from our community! Currently, we are running dangerously low on wet cat food and wet dog food. Next week, we will not have any wet food to feed our cats or dogs! 🫨

⭐️⭐️Resale for Rescues will have a special guest today, Friday, June 14th. Come meet Basket! He will be there from 12:30-3:00pm, hoping to find a forever family. ⭐️⭐️

Basket is a 6-year-old boy that was adopted from NAWS several years ago and recently found as a stray in Chicago. Things certainly did not go as planned for him and if he could talk, we bet he would have some stories to tell (not all good ones). We are determined to find him the perfect home this time, where he never has to feel unwanted, unsafe or unloved again.

Basket is an incredibly affectionate and engaging cat. All he wants is to be near people. He follows us around looking for attention and has a gentle demeanor that should make him a good fit for any home.

Meet Bubbles! This lovely young girl was found as a stray - she is ready to find a loving forever home. You will adore her! Bubbles has a lot of personality - she is very friendly and curious. She follows her foster around to see what she is doing and is usually talking to her the whole time! She loves to play and likes wand toys, ball tracks, and chasing balls across the floor. She is snuggly and loves to sit in laps. Bubbles is good with other cats.
