Adopt, don't shop!!!

🐾😒 When we leave the shelter at night 😒🐾

When we say good night to the dogs for the day and these eyes show the loneliness and sadness of being without a warm bed, in a home of their own, it can be down right heartbreaking πŸ’”

These faces and souls have that forever love they are so ready to share.. they ALL need boundaries, as with any animal. They need time to adjust and a patient and firm human.

We know there is someone out there for every dog ( and cat ) that we have at the shelter. Our staff and volunteers love on these animals every day and OUR STAFF and VOLUNTEERS ARE AMAZING ❀️🌟
But, it’s not the same as having a true home of your own.

As the weather changes and nights grow longer and there is more time at home and inside, consider adopting an animal if you have the time and the means to care for one.. you will find the most rewarding love and loyalty ever 🐾❀️🐾 ~ Shari

I just want to let grooming customers know that if you're wanting a groom, I'm booking approximately 2-3 weeks in advance, and a month in advance for Saturdays. As of now, I have July 20th- the 23 open so far, and the soonest Saturday is August 14th. No openings for big dogs until August 28th.
****Please schedule your next appointment at your current appointment.....it would help so much!
Thank you! 😊
*If your dog is just a bath and clean up, I can usually work them in somewhere. 🐢
I'm still not taking new customers for now and no new big dogs at all.

Beware of products that contain xylitol. Make sure to keep them out of your pet’s reach at all costs.

Is your pooch licking one paw? Two paws? All four paws?
Dogs lick their paws for many reasons: my article about this topic is in the comments section:

PLEASE take time and TRY to potty your dog when you get here, EVEN IF THEY'VE GONE AT HOME.

I'm really trying to be cool about this but somehow I can't get across that the ride can give them anxiety, and they may need to go again.

I do not have the time to potty your dog when they get here, or have time to clean up numerous messes.

When they get here, it's your responsibility.
Once they've been here for awhile, it's on me.

I can provide a leash if needed.

I'm having a couple of issues recently pertaining to how things work in the grooming business.

1. I'm asking customers to please potty your dog on the side of the garage before bringing them in. We can provide a leash to use if necessary.
Why?
Because even though they may have done their business at home, the ride here can be unsettling for some, especially those that are naturally anxious, and they may need to go again. If they don't get that chance outside, the first thing they're going to do is potty inside. I haven't asked this before but I'm asking now. This is a super busy time of the year and when dogs get here, I want to immediately start on their grooming, and that's hard to do when I have to clean up numerous messes before I can even start. which leads us to number 2......(see what I did there?) πŸ™‚

*Accidents do happen at some point and I understand, but if we can avoid them first thing in the morning, that's even better. πŸ™‚

2. Again...please understand that this is a busy time for groomers and I do my best to get dogs done in a reasonable amount of time.
I don't intend to keep your dog here any longer than they, or you want them to be, but I need time to do my job well. All I ask is to please let me call you when they're done. Please don't just show up, call, text, message or hover in the parking lot. There are many steps to dog grooming and none of them can be done fast. Plus, not all dogs stand like statues and some require extra time. Trust me, I have a system to my day and if I'm allowed to keep that system, I can be more efficient. IF there were an issue, I would definitely call you, and I'm sorry if I can't give you a time or even an estimate when your dog will be done, because it's too stressful for the dog and myself to be put on a time limit. Again...I do my best to get them done in a reasonable time.
I appreciate you all, and I just need this bit of cooperation to make your dogs grooming experience a smooth one.
Thanks!!

Heyyyyy!πŸ‘‹πŸ»
Just want to let everyone know that I am officially off duty until Tuesday the 7th, meaning I won't be returning calls or messages until then.
You are free to leave messages for grooming and I will get back to them on Tuesday. I'm booked Tuesday and Wednesday as it is so we're looking at later in the week for appointments.
I've been super busy since March, which is awesome, and I'm ever so grateful to all of you for keeping me busy, but I need a little break. Just a few days of no business. Thank you for understanding, and I'll be ready to rock and roll next week! 😁❀🐢🐱

Great read!

Just a thought of the day I felt compelled to share..

Working in veterinary medicine is where I single handedly see the most dog to dog mishaps with the general public due to simply lacking knowledge on dog behavior, and lack of respect for both their own dog and other dog’s space. Let me play it out for you, of what I see, all too often. Owner has their dog in the waiting room on a loose, long leash. The Dog is free to roam within a 6 ft radius. Another dog and its owner attempt to come in the doors, only to be blocked and greeted nose to nose by the uncontrolled dog, now tense on his leash, pulling and eager to meet. Its owner speaks out, β€œoh it’s okay! I’ve got him, and he’s friendlyβ˜ΊοΈβ€ Here is where I step in to politely ask the owner to keep her dog close to her, only to get a response of β€œhe’s fine, he’s wagging his tail!” πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Little do they know, I see something else, way more complex, far beyond their assumptions.

Education and knowledge is power. Especially when you are dealing with an animal that you are supposed to mentor and guide for its lifetime, to ensure stability, confidence, and respect. In my professional and outright personal opinion, never is it okay to:
1) Allow your dog to greet another dog nose to nose on a tense leash
*A dog greeted head on is generally very rude, intrusive, and unnatural in the dog world, and can create conflict right from the get go. Any dog can take this posture as threatening, and begin defensive aggressive behavior. To make matters worse, a tense leash can build the energy in a dog to produce reactive behavior due to space constraints. If you must introduce dogs on leash, it is better to allow them to greet side by side on a LOOSE leash, and relax!

2) Assume that a wagging tail is a happy dog wanting to interact
* A dog will wag its tail for a multitude of emotions. It is VITAL to understand what your dog is saying by it’s tail wag. Based on tail position and speed will indicate how the dog is feeling. For example, A low, fast wag can generally indicate nervous energy, or insecurity, which has potential to cause a fear aggressive response. A high, stiff wag can mean over-arousal/over-stimulation or intent of ready to spring into action. The dog will make lousy choices in this state of mind and make it more difficult to control should they β€œrev-up” more. A medial, soft & loose wag is generally universal for a happy dog. Get to know your wags!

3) Assume the other dog is just as β€œfriendly” as yours
* Not all dogs are dog friendly. This should be obvious knowledge. Just because your dog is friendly does not mean the other is, too. They could be undersocialized, have social insecurities, or just be dog aggressive. Give other dogs space, please.

4) Allow your dog to interact with other dogs in a veterinary office waiting room
* Dogs often come into the vet office already stressed. It is generally not a place of pleasure as the dog is usually being shuffled into a tight room, being held by strangers only to be poked and prodded at. The smell of other ill dogs or even death is in the air which makes a dog uneasy. Most owners are often nervous FOR their dog during a vet visit so their energy does not help the dog, either. There may be the the smell of cats in the room, stress pheremones, and urine markings from other dogs. Dogs come in not feeling well, or maybe have arthritis, or painful from an injury. They may be recovering from a surgery. Or coming in to be put down due to old age or chronic illness. Now tell me why this sounds like a good spot to β€œplay”?!

We all go to the vet with our dogs. Please make your next visit pleasurable for everyone!
