To help combat the winter blues we'd like to introduce some of our amazing Therapy Dogs and Therapy Dogs in Training. Keep an eye out here and on insta every Monday for...MEET THE LEGACY TEAM MONDAY'S!

First up is Legacy Therapy Dog in training Karl!

Karl is a 5 year old, 160 pound Rottweiler. Don't let his size fool you, Karl is the biggest, sweetest, teddy bear that you'll ever meet! Karl starting training with Legacy in March of 2024, he's passed the AKC CGC test, and he's due to complete his mentored visit training in the next month, and then he will be an officially certified Legacy Therapy Dog!

Karl loves popcorn, and cheeseballs, and all snacks in general, but he loves giving kisses and snuggles most of all. Karl's stubby tail and his big ol b***y wiggle uncontrollably when he meets new people, which brings endless smiles and laughter to all.

Be sure to look for Karl and his Legacy Therapy dog friends at some of our upcoming visits. You can find a calendar of our upcoming events on our website legacytherapydogs.org

Legacy Therapy Dogs Sully, Mo, Oliver, Benjamin, Murphy and Karl loved getting to visit with the kids at the East Moline Public Library in December.

This was a great opportunity for the kids to practice their reading skills. Did you know that reading to a therapy dog has been shown to help increase a child's reading and comprehension skills? Afterall, dogs don't judge, they just listen!

In December, we had the privilege of bringing some of our amazing therapy dogs to the KWQC TV6 Staff Christmas Party! Instead of Santa Claus, the Legacy Therapy Dogs were the stars of the evening, spreading joy and therapy dog cuddles with everyone!

We’re so touched by this kind feedback from KWQC:
"Inviting Legacy Therapy Dogs to our TV6 Staff Holiday Event was a gift to all! The gentle Sullivan & Mo, cuddly Benjamin, sweet Oliver, charming Chase Elliot, & giant teddy-bear 'Big Karl' stole our hearts. Thanks to the dogs and their families for 'Making a Difference'." - Sue Ramsett, General Manager

We’re so proud of our therapy dogs and their handlers for making such a meaningful impact. Thank you, KWQC, for having us as part of your holiday celebration—it was truly special!

Today Legacy Therapy Dogs celebrates its first anniversary. It was an amazing first year and we couldn't have done it without the support from our dedicated volunteers and our wonderful community!

In the last year we achieved official 501(c)(3) non-profit status and have been recognized as an official Therapy Dog Organization through the American Kennel Club! We are proud of these great achievements because they will allow us to better serve you, our community.

We are also proud of all the new friendships we made and countless lives we touched through our therapy dog visits. In the last 12 months the Legacy Therapy Dogs attended 128 visits to 64 different venues throughout the Quad Cities! We love all the meaningful connections we made and we can't wait to see you all again this year.

It is with heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of Legacy Therapy Dog; and Service Dog, Oliver.

Over his incredible 9 years, Oliver touched countless lives with his gentle spirit, unwavering loyalty, and sweet, expressive face that always seemed to know just what you needed.

In nearly 600 visits throughout the Quad Cities, Oliver brought joy, comfort, and encouragement to everyone he met. He had a special connection with children, especially at libraries and reading programs, where he inspired a love of books and made every storytime unforgettable. ( You'll still see his sweet face at certain visits as we post about our visits leading up to Christmas)

Outside of his service, Oliver was full of life and joy. He loved swimming, snuggling with his favorite stuffed animals, and spending time with his favorite people.

Oliver was more than a dog—he was a source of light, a loyal friend, and a treasured member of the Legacy Therapy Dog family and our community. His passing leaves a hole in our hearts, but his legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in all who knew him.

Thank you, Oliver, for nine amazing years of unconditional love and devotion. You will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

💛 Please feel free to share your favorite memories or photos of Oliver in the comments.
