We want to inform our community that a recent case of positive rabies has been confirmed in our county. Rabies is a fatal disease that can affect both animals and humans, but it is 100% preventable with proper precautions.

What You Can Do:
✔ Vaccinate your pets – Rabies vaccinations are required by law and protect your pets and family.
✔ Avoid contact with wildlife – Do not approach or handle wild or stray animals.
✔ Report unusual behavior – If you see an animal acting aggressively or strangely, contact local animal control.

As the days grow warmer, you’re likely to spend more time outside, work in your yard, and maybe even do some spring cleaning. It’s important to remember that some springtime routines may be harmful to our beloved pets. Here are some tips to keep them safe:
🌷 Watch Out for Toxic Plants: Some spring blooms like lilies, tulips, and daffodils can be harmful to pets if ingested.
🦟 Prevent Fleas & Ticks: Warmer weather brings pests! Make sure your pets are up-to-date on flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives.
🌱 Garden with Care: Fertilizers, pesticides, and mulch can be toxic. Keep your pets away from treated areas until they’re safe.
Let’s enjoy a safe and happy spring!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

- Cats often seek the warmth of car hoods. To alert any sleeping animal try knocking or honking before starting your car to avoid any injuries.
- Small or short-haired breeds benefit from a coat or sweater. Ensure clothing fits snugly but doesn’t restrict movement. Make sure it stays dry and change it if it becomes damp.

Cold Weather Care for Pets🐾❄️:

Provide Warm Shelter: Ensure your pet’s sleeping area is warm and has cozy bedding. If you have outdoor pets, provide insulated shelters with straw, not blankets, for warmth.

Limit Outdoor Time: Pets can suffer from frostbite and hypothermia, just like humans. Keep outdoor time short, especially for senior and short-haired pets. Recognize the signs of hypothermia: Shivering, whining, sluggish, or anxious behavior.

Beware of Antifreeze: Antifreeze is toxic to pets. Clean up any spills immediately and store out of reach. Consider using a pet safe antifreeze.
