🌞 Summer heat can be dangerous for pets and it's on its way! 🌞

Did you know that pets can suffer from heatstroke just like humans? 🐾 On hot days, especially when the temperature climbs above 85°F (29°C), pets can easily overheat, leading to dangerous conditions. Specially brachycephalic breeds ( Frenchies, Boxers, Bulldogs..ect) Here’s what you should know to protect your furry friends:

🔴 Signs of Heatstroke in Pets:

Excessive panting or drooling

Vomiting or diarrhea

Lethargy or weakness

Rapid heart rate or irregular breathing

Red or pale gums

Unsteadiness or collapse

🛑 Preventing Heatstroke:

NEVER leave pets in a parked car, even with the windows cracked—temps inside can skyrocket in just minutes! 🚗🔥

Make sure your pet has access to plenty of fresh, cool water and shaded areas.

Limit outdoor exercise during the hottest parts of the day (usually between 10 AM and 4 PM). Opt for walks in the early morning or evening.

Cool your pet down: If you think your pet is overheating, bring them into the shade or air conditioning and offer them water. You can also gently wet their fur with cool (not cold) water, but avoid using ice!

🏥 If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, take them to the vet IMMEDIATELY. Time is of the essence to prevent serious damage.

Reminder to everyone that we are always in need of donations for the local food pantry! We are having a very hard time getting enough donations to meet the demand.

Any help our clients can give us is so appreciated! You can donate unopened bags and cans of dog and cat food, toys, leashes/collars, and pet clothes to us anytime during our regular business hours.

Dr. Wessels and some of the staff were in Chicago last night providing vet care to pets of the homeless and needy in the city. They were able to help a lot of animals yesterday.

They go every month, rain or shine! It's hard work, they are working in a parking lot, but very rewarding! It's part of The Street Dog Coalition, they do great work all over!

April 15th is National Doberman Day! It’s not just a coincidence that their day is on Tax Day, the breed was created in the 1880s by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann in present-day Thuringia in central Germany. He wanted to create a breed that would be ideal for protecting him on his rounds as a tax collector. They were also the first breed to be used in the US military and were an invaluable asset in WWII.

Two of our employees have Dobes! Lindsay our CSR has Nandor The Relentless (red) and our walker Crystal has Sampson (black), enjoy some pics of these two silly boys!
