Meet Angus! Recently adopted from Baltimore County Animal Services, he is an absolute sweetheart 🥰

I love Rottweilers but hardly ever see them. In my 7 years of business, I’ve only ever walked 2 and they lived in the same house.

So happy for my clients and Angus! They are wonderful humans for him and he is living his best life with them!

So so nice to see my buddy Dewey last week!! He’s the one with the cone on. He has some hot spots, but is still his regular, happy self!

He lived at a clients for a few months this spring while his owners were moving from Hawaii to Virginia. He was back in town this past weekend which made me so happy!!

Tater (with the blue ball) and Ticket (with the big yawn 😂) and Dewey are all related. Just like human family members, these 3 each have their own unique personalities. Love them all so much!!

THE SNOOZE TIME DANCE

Most of us are familiar with the sometimes amusing or maybe even irritating ritual that some dogs perform before settling down to rest.

Why do they insist on circling, digging, scratching, making mounds of cushions, blankets or mats, often with great delight and satisfaction, when they have a perfectly comfortable, neat place to sleep?

It may simply be the same urge that leads us to twist, turn and scrunch up our pillows before finding a position that feels most comfortable, but the most likely reason is that this behaviour is genetically inherited from their wild ancestors.

These pre snooze dance moves each served a specific purpose that enabled their wild ancestors to feel protected, safe and comfortable in their environment.

Even though our modern, domesticated dogs shouldn’t need to be concerned about the same things their ancestors did, many dogs simply can’t resist performing these rituals.

Sometimes excessive circling, the inability to get comfortable or crouching down and then getting up again may indicate a health issue like arthritis, back problems or other painful conditions so it’s a good idea to have a vet check if you are noticing this happening frequently.

Generally, snooze time dance moves are a completely normal, natural behaviour and allowing your dog to perform these moves to their hearts content is important in contributing to their wellbeing by allowing them to feel more in control of their environment.

Had a wonderful time visiting my family this weekend. The weather was amazing so they had the windows open so their pets could bird watch.

Introducing the newest members of my menagerie, Skye and Luna 🐱 🐱

Their former owners move a lot due to being in the military and it was causing the cats a lot of stress. They did everything they could to try and reduce their stress but ultimately determined that it was best they find a new home for the cats.

We adore Skye and Luna. They are both sweet and so hilarious!

I’m so incredibly happy we were able to take them in. Not only because of helping the cats but helping their former owner too.

Helping pets and people brings me such joy ❤️❤️

Such a wonderful story!! So thankful that Tony and Prince are back together ❤️

I love when people and their pets are simultaneously helped.

Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for something to happen.

On November 10th, 2023, weeping and in the pouring rain, Tony, Prince’s Dad, had little hope left. This veteran had lost his home and didn’t have the means to care for his pup anymore. The Senior Dog Sanctuary agreed to take Prince, and Tony said, “Please take care of him, and I will come back for him. Please.” While agreeing to care for him, we couldn’t promise Prince wouldn’t find another home, but we told him there was always hope.

Every week, Tony called to check on Prince. He would update us on how his life was going, and we could hear the hope in his voice that he would make it back on his feet to come for his beloved German Shepherd. Prince was anxious and scared without his human, but the staff and volunteers at SDS did everything possible to help him acclimate to life at the sanctuary.

Fall turned to winter, and Prince started to find his place among the other senior dogs. A family came to visit him and decided this German Shepherd would make the best addition to their family. On January 26th, Prince was adopted. We had to call Tony to tell him the news. It was one of the hardest phone calls we’ve had to make, and Tony wept uncontrollably. He had thought hope would see him through to reuniting with his pup, but it didn’t seem meant to be.

But then something happened. Prince was returned. Sometimes, dogs aren’t the right fit for a family, and SDS is always willing to take dogs back because we believe things always work out as they should. Another phone call was made to Tony, but this time with more hope. Maybe Tony and Prince would find their way back to each other.

Last week, on May 10th, six months after Prince’s surrender, two staff members brought Prince back to Tony in his new Baltimore home! The moment was pure joy as Prince looked up at his owner with the unconditional love only a dog can give. Life had shown them dark times, but they had made it into the light. Tony had his sidekick once again. Their photo together says it all. Hope finds a way. Pets for Patriots

The owners let their toddler son go into her cage while she was sleeping and she woke up and snapped at him.

Whispering Rise Farm & Animal Sanctuary is such a wonderful organization! My husband and I volunteered their on New Year’s Day last month and we really enjoyed ourselves.
