We had an episode with Kyra with Vomiting and no longer eating for about 3 days. We got her taken care of and found out she has Addisons Disease. Unfortunately, this means we will no longer be breeding for the foreseeable future.
This isn't because it's a hereditary thing. But her body can't handle stresses like it used to. We get her a shot monthly and have to give her steroids every day as her body isn't producing it on her own anymore. If you'd like to read up on it more here is a link that explains it all in detail. https://www.caninejournal.com/addisons-disease-in-dogs/?msclkid=7c7c4e0dbdb011ecb84ad5886cb42d57
Now that we know the issue though she can live a happy and enjoyable life without much difference than her older self. So, no worries about her she's doing great.
Looking back signs we saw but didn't realize they were an issue were a coarser hair in her coat, and rapidly growing nails. We believe this was due to the hormone imbalance in her system. It's not something you'd immediately clue into as something seriously wrong though. Seems it's pretty common to have a Addisons crisis which is what she had in female dogs predominately usually around 3-5 years of age. Which is exactly how we pinned it down. Luckily, we have a great vet who knew how to respond to it all.
We'll keep the page going and love to get updates on everyone. We are still here is you have any issues or questions. Emily is going to be starting Agility courses with Kyra in the near future and hopefully we have some update on how that all progress's for us all.
