Huge thank you to our friends at Animal Crackers Pet Supply in Corvallis for hosting a holiday fundraiser to get donations for us! Someone came in to the shop today and told us about some other independent rescues they’ve seen that do twitch livestreams with just a cat cam in one of their rooms that’s left on 24/7. That way when people tune in, they can have it on in the background and it’ll be a good source of passive income for the rescue. I’d thought of doing livestreams before but I hadn’t realized there were ways to make money from it besides donors during the stream. We do want to do some fun, interactive live streams as well but we’d like to try to get the 24/7 cat cam stream up soon in the meantime. Go give us a follow on Twitch to be notified of all future livestreams! Who wouldn’t want to look at cute kitties all day 🥰

Part of the reason we’re struggling so much this month is due to the number of medical expenses we’ve had for the cats. We’ve only posted about a small handful of the events going on behind the scenes since they’ve taken up so much of our time and effort. One of the biggest expenses among them was getting three female cats spayed. We normally go somewhere that’s quite a bit cheaper but since we have some male cats that aren’t getting fixed until next month in the same room as these unstated females, we wanted to hurry and get them fixed before they got too old. For example, Missy is bonded with her brother Flame and we wanted to avoid separating them. Mama Kiki and her baby were a train wreck of a situation but the short version of that story is: We got Kiki fixed and returned to her owner and Baby Kiki (now known as Lyra) is staying with us. I’ll get into the other health issues in another post to avoid making this a novel but I just wanted to say thank you all so much for your support! We’ve gotten some very generous donations after making a post yesterday about being in dangerous water financially. I didn’t expect much from that post since I didn’t go into a lot of detail on specific expenses so it means a lot to me that we got so much support from all of you! Truly one of the best communities I’ve ever seen💜

To anyone wondering: No, cats should not be vegans. I’m vegan, I’m also human. Cats are obligated to carnivores and meat is a necessary part of a healthy diet for them. There is absolutely no reason for a cat to be vegan. They’re animals, don’t deprive them of their dietary needs for your own satisfaction. If you want to be vegan, be vegan but don’t force that on your pets. There’s no such thing as a naturally vegan cat.

I had a family come in today with their kids saying their son wants a cat for Christmas so they’re here looking for a cat. They said it would be his responsibility and it would sleep in his room, he’d be in charge of cleaning up after it and it would be “his cat”. It baffles me that I have to say this but Kids. Don’t. Own. Pets. It’s fine if you want to teach the kid responsibility by having them help out with the pet chores if they say they want a pet, I actually encourage that, but a pet should never be “the kid’s animal”. They are children. They’re still learning how to be mini humans, they should not be the sole responsible party for another living thing. This kid looked like he was early elementary school age. Of course he wants a pet, most little kids do, that doesn’t mean he should be 100% in charge of taking care of it. Parents, if you don’t want to be responsible for a pet, the answer is not “it’s the kid’s pet, they’ll take care of it”. Have a conversation with your kid, explain to them in a way they’ll understand what it means to own an animal and go from there. If the adults in the household don’t want to take care of the animal, don’t get an animal. It’s that simple. It’s not fair to the animal or your kid.

Saw a post earlier today looking for local nonprofits to donate to since their place of employment matches donations made to nonprofits this time of year and I thought I’d put our name out there. In case you don’t know us, we are Paws and Pumpkins Rescue, a cat focused animal rescue located on Main St in Monmouth. We are the only 501c3 nonprofit rescue that focuses on rescue work specifically for Monmouth, Independence and Dallas. Our focus is on taking in cats with special needs/circumstances that have nowhere else to go. We have a wide range of programs including anything from physical, mental, behavioral and social disorders, neonatals (kittens 0-4wks old), strays/abandoned cats as well as TNR rescues. We just settled in our new space on Main Street after a pretty big move and we put all our funding into getting this space ready for the cats to live here so any and all donations are extremely appreciated! Even if your place of employment doesn’t have a program to match donations, individual donations can still be used as tax write offs! If you aren’t able to donate financially, we also accept bottles/cans since we are registered with Oregon Bottle Drop as a 501c3. You can bring your bottles/cans to our shop at 176 W Main St in Monmouth, or you can donate funds digitally through your bottle drop account by using the “Search for Nonprofits” feature on their website. Lastly, we are currently partnered with Animal Crackers Pet Supply this holiday season so for every donation you make, you earn a feee raffle ticket for one of their specialty gift baskets! Pickup your raffle tickets at Animal Crackers Pet Supply between now and December 25th! Thank you to everyone who recommended us on the other post I saw! It means the world to me that people see what we’re doing and want to support us in our mission! We are so proud of this animal loving community we’ve built!💜

We are so excited to partner with for a holiday donation drive! We are so thankful that they decided to partner with us as a smaller rescue to help us get supplies and donations this holiday season! When you make a donation between now and December 25th, you can get a free raffle ticket at Animal Crackers to be entered into a gift basket giveaway. We’ve seen some of the sneak peeks of the baskets they’ve posted on their page and we can say you definitely don’t want to miss the chance to win one of their gift baskets 👀
Please note that we at Paws and Pumpkins Rescue are not handing out raffle tickets, you have to get those from Animal Crackers.

The timing on this couldn’t be better, I don’t have the words to express my gratitude here. We’ve been struggling with finances for the last two months since we put everything into the move and this is genuinely so incredibly helpful right now. Thank you so much to the donor and to for this amazing grant! It means the absolute world to us that someone sees what we are doing and recommended us for this grant. Thank you so much! It’ll get put to good use!

11/19/2024

This is by far the biggest project we’ve ever launched. The Cat’s Crib Donation Drive is our special fundraising effort to prep for buying our own space late next year. As some of you may know, we signed the lease on our current space knowing that it was going to be a temporary space due to the landlord’s tentative plans to demolish the entire building early 2026. We took this space since we had run out of time in our old location and we knew we’d want to buy our own space soon regardless. This does mean we unfortunately have a timer on our fundraising efforts but I’ve seen the amazing things this community is capable of pulling off for the sake of the cats. So here’s the goal: We are aiming to have enough for the down payment and moving expenses for a building of our own. Keep in mind we still have to pay rent, bills and buy supplies in our current space as well so when we do the math for all of this, we will need to raise at least $15k/month for 12 months. As of right now, we are consistently making an average of about $3k-4k a month but keep in mind that average is including every month since we started this so there has been an upward trend in the amount of donations we’ve seen each month. Also, now that we’re a 501c3, that will definitely help us over the next year. We are fully aware that this is a huge goal and it will take a LOT to pull this off but we have faith that if it’s meant to be, it will all work out. We believed that when we were looking for our current space and now look at us now! There are so many benefits to owning our own property as a rescue that would make operating so much easier. I would be using it as a live/work space so there would be more opportunities to take in medical cases, neonatal and other rescues that need overnight care. It would also make modifying the environment much easier since we wouldn’t have to worry about doing it in a non-permanent manner or getting landlord permission. It would also ensure that we won’t face a situation like our last space, or even this current one, where the space is a temporary setup and we have to move again. It’s a huge goal but we know our community has huge hearts for the cats 💜

He’s absolutely amazing at getting all of these were taken while the cats were moving around naturally so the whole process was stress free for all the cats and I can’t wait to share with all of you what we’re going to be doing with the photos we got!
