Typically we don't carry medications or pharma drugs until they have been on the market for over a year. This is for the safety of our patients. Librella is no different. It seemed promising and we have had several patients that got it elsewhere. We've had clients mad we didn't have it, and we've lost clients because we didn't have it.
It was tested on a low number of dogs and only for a short time. Typically we'll see how a drugs safety is after a year and thousands of dogs.... well Librella hasn't done well.
From this article "More than 3,600 cases of debilitating dog health problems caused by the medication were reported between January 2023 and March 2024, the FDA said in the cautionary letter, published Monday."
I'm glad none of those are our patients!
Dangerous side effects from the injectable canine drug Librela — used to treat osteoarthritis joint pain — have been linked to seizures, lameness and loss of muscle control, the FDA warned.
