Spotlight time!

We know having to make the decision to come to an emergency vet is scary and stressful. They are never planned and like most of us, tend to happen at the worst possible time in our lives. We understand this and try our best here at Premier to ensure your visit is as stress free as possible for you and your pet.

We wanted to share one of our success stories and one of the many reasons we do what we do!

Ripley visited us this week for eating part of a toy. His mom knew he had something in his mouth and of course Ripley decided it was his time to shine and swallowed the toy before she could get it. Ripley’s mom made the perfect decision and brought him in to see us. We were able to induce vomiting and this big bunny ear came up. This most likely would have caused an intestinal blockage and Ripley would have needed surgery to remove it. We are so thankful that we were able to get this out before that happened!

If you are ever unsure if you need to come see us, please do not hesitate to give us a call. We are here to help!

Check out Ripley’s before and after pics. That pup has no regrets!

Introducing Dr. Kelsey Stokes!

Dr. Kelsey Stokes is a native of Monroe, Louisiana. She graduated from Sterlington High School, completed her undergraduate studies at Louisiana Tech University, and received her doctorate from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. Since graduating, Dr. Stokes has practiced as an associate small animal veterinarian in Northeast Louisiana.

Veterinary Medicine is a part of who Dr. Stokes is and has been since she was a little girl. She never dreamed of doing anything else, and this profession has been everything she wanted it to be. Dr. Stokes loves forming bonds with her patients and their owners. Her professional interests include soft tissue surgery, feline medicine, and low stress veterinary care. One of Dr. Stokes favorite parts of practicing veterinary medicine is educating others whether that means her clients, staff, or young people at schools.

Dr. Stokes is happily married to her high school sweetheart, Benjamin, and together they have three children; Bennett, Catherine, and Bishop. They also have a toy poodle, Ally, and two cats, Toulouse and Berlioz. In her personal time, Dr. Stokes enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

Now introducing Dr. Laura Little!

Laura Little was born and raised in Winnsboro, Louisiana. She continued on to Louisiana State University for her undergraduate studies which was a helpful mix of Tiger Football, Biochemistry and Animal Science. After attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine for the didactic portion of her veterinary education and finishing her clinical studies at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, she decided that she needed to try a little bit of everything veterinary medicine had to offer. She worked in large animal medicine, small animal medicine, relief veterinary positions, and spent many years working in emergency veterinary medicine.

In August 2018, Dr. Laura decided to open Little Veterinary Services in Monroe, Louisiana and three weeks later truly defined the meaning of a family-oriented practice by having her son, Sawyer, who has practically been raised in the clinic ever since. Living and working in Monroe for over a decade, Dr. Little has continually seen the need for after-hours emergency services in our community and is excited to be a part of bringing pet owners the opportunity to receive quality care close to home. Dr. Little has a passion for her patients care and her belief that the client must be an integral part of the care plan for the pet is also one of the cornerstones for bringing Premier Pet Emergency Clinic to a reality.

When she is not busy being a mom, a vet, and a business owner, Laura likes to travel the world as much as possible. At home, her menagerie of animals - dogs, cats, horses, chickens and goats - keeps her hopping. She enjoys good friends, good food, family and tries to make the world a little bit better one day at a time.

We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Keri Cataldo-Rogers!

Dr. Keri Cataldo-Rogers was born and raised in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. She received her BS in biology at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana and her DVM in 1998 from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She moved to the northeast corner of Louisiana in 2001 to manage a local emergency clinic. After working at the emergency clinic and a corporately owned small animal clinic, she decided to open her own small animal clinic in West Monroe. She and her husband, Danny, opened The Neighborhood Vet clinic in November 2022.

Her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine are the relationships that she develops with clients and patients and providing compassionate care to her patients.

She loves spending free time with family and friends, enjoying a good book and a glass of wine, relaxing at her family’s cabin in Arkansas, or snow skiing in Park City, Utah. She and Danny have three, 4-legged children, Daisy, Cruella and Magnolia.

Today Dr. Stokes had the opportunity to go talk to students at Lexington Elementary School about veterinary medicine for Career Day. The kids were able to help Dr. Stokes do surgery on Biscuit to relieve his tummy pain after he ate a few too many Scooby snacks last night.

We absolutely love teaching others about what we do. Educating our children is just one way to help keep pets healthy, protect the human-animal-bond, and inspire the next generation of veterinarians.

Is the Solar Eclipse something I need to worry about for my pet???

The environmental changes surrounding an eclipse could influence pet behavior. In those dogs who tend to become anxious prior to thunderstorms are the ones we will worry about the most. They may confuse the diminished sunlight with the onset of an upcoming storm.
