A heartfelt way to commemorate your pet during the holidays is by making an ornament or decoration in their memory. This could be their paw print, a toy attached to a string, a personalized ornament, or simply something that makes you think of them.

One meaningful way to celebrate a cherished pet who has passed away during the holiday season is to give back in their memory. You might consider volunteering at a nearby animal shelter, making a donation to a charity that holds significance for you in their name, or bringing treats to the veterinary hospital that cared for your beloved companion. Often, the best way to nurture ourselves is by caring for others.

One way to keep your pet’s memory close by is to commission a drawing or a painting by a local artist, or maybe even a friend. We don't have a specific artist to recommend because they are all so good, but there are many talented artists both locally and online who can bring a photo memory to life and so you can have a treasured memory in your home.

A beautiful poem written and shared with permission by Thor's family ❤️

Early Snow

The snow came down for you that morning, Thor.

It was the first flurry of the year, arriving early, as if Mother Nature knew you wanted to feel some cold, wet flakes on your big, beautiful head one last time.

You greeted those flakes with pure joy, running (briefly) like a pup again—one last time.

Yes! It was a happy day! With belly rubs and (lots of) forbidden treats.

You played in the front yard—one last time.

You rambled Ash Creek, sniffing familiar briny air—one last time.

(And the heron called to us. I swear he did. Or maybe it was my imagination.)

You snuggled with me by the fireplace—one last time.

And then, right on cue, the sun came out for you—one last time.

Sleep well, beautiful friend.

Breathe easy, sleep well.

They will not go quietly,
the pets who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still can make us think
we hear them at the door
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them
and always will.

Today, our hearts are with every family who has faced the difficult journey of canine lymphoma — and with every beloved dog who fought with quiet strength and endless love.
We’ve been honored to support families during some of the most tender and emotional moments of their lives. We’ve witnessed the deep bond between pets and their people — and we know just how hard it is to say goodbye.

💛 If your dog is currently battling lymphoma, please know:
You are not alone. Your love matters more than words can say. And every moment you share is a gift.

💛 If you’ve already said goodbye, we hold space for your grief — and honor the paw prints forever left on your heart. We are here to walk alongside you with care and compassion.

Our Story

The decision to euthanize a companion is always difficult. The option to be at home in a quiet, loving environment can make a big difference for families who are uncomfortable with bringing their loved one to a veterinary hospital. From knowing their companion suffers extreme stress and fear at the vet, having a large dog that is incapacitated and cannot make the trip, or simply because being at home is the only way families can imagine making this transition, we know and understand your needs.

Dr. Kristen Klie graduated veterinary school from Colorado State University in 1996. She has worked as a relief veterinarian in over 30 hospitals throughout Connecticut and has earned the respect and trust throughout the veterinary community that allows other doctors to feel comfortable referring their beloved clients to her service, knowing they are in good hands. Devoted to expanding her work of service, compassion and diversity, Dr. Klie attended Hartford Seminary’s interfaith chaplaincy program. It was a natural progression that her passion for veterinary medicine turned into a calling for “Final Journey”. This unique perspective allows for deeper connection and care for all her clients.
