I love that we have the opportunity to make an impact on people AND that even when they move away, they plan ahead to make sure they have a lesson spot available while they're in town! โค๏ธ๐Ÿด That just shows they've experienced the difference equine assisted services can make.

Ya'll know we love our holiday lessons. This week we went on Shamrock Scavenger hunts. Of course, everyone had to be dressed to go "hunting" and they did not disappoint when it came to the costumes! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Well, we discovered this week that the big horses like grapes. Biker nodded his head up and down in excitement after eating each one. The minis on the other hand were not a fan. Much like the smaller people in many of our lives, they are more picky eaters that the big ones around here. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Happy first day of Spring!!!

Welcome to the season of flowers, pollen and (for us) LOTS of horsehair!!!

You can ask all the participants, they've already been going home with "souvenirs" after each lesson. (Lint brushes may need to be added to the list of requirements for Spring lessons in the future. ๐Ÿ˜†)

Today is also International Day of Happiness and what says happiness better than time with horses? We may be biased but we think that they are at the top of the list!!!

Spoiler alert...heartfelt post!!

Today, we had the BEST day! We were able to utilize Biker for a therapeutic riding lesson that was a blessing in so many ways! Not only was he able to use his muscles to help strengthen those of someone else but he provided a way for dreams to come true for her again and be able to ride a horse.

This precious lady spent 14 years volunteering for a therapeutic center in Missouri and we got the privilege of providing that same type of therapy to her today. It was so heartwarming for us to be gifted the opportunity to do something like that and to know that we had the means to be able to do it is all because of people who believe in what we do and donate to our fundraisers, monthly support, events, etc. that allow us to say "yes" when we are called upon. What YOU do matters in what WE do!! Thank you to the volunteers that were able to help today as well. We all drove away from the ranch with full hearts today! โค๏ธ๐Ÿฉถ

In case you were wondering, this is what spoiled looks like. ๐Ÿ˜„ Biker had to get started back on his antihistamines today and he wasn't wanting to eat his grains. (The medicine is mixed in and you can smell it pretty strongly.) We had to mix in some of the crushed up treats and hand feed him to get him to eat. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

On that note, we are on the last bag of treats. For those that like to send that as part of your contribution to the ranch, I will add the links in the comments. Also, it looks like we're going to be spending between now and September mixing in fruits and veggies to get Biker to eat and take his medicine, so he doesn't scratch sores all over himself. So, if anyone wants to donate to his "fresh food fund", we won't be mad at that either. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Just a little St. Patrick's Day humor.

If you've been around Bright Star Ranch very many times you know a few things to be certain:
- Our horses RARELY roll in the stalls (except Sophie immediately after a bath๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ)
- The stalls are clean
- Everyone but Biker has occasional grass stains from the rolling the do all over the pasture ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ
- Grooming is one of the BEST parts of being around horses ๐Ÿฅฐ

This month's edition of The Hoofbeat has some more opportunities for your child to come out and visit the ranch as well as some news we've been excited about. We hope you enjoy reading about our progress at the ranch.

Is anyone else feeling lucky? Luck is definitely not something that I have much of (or any, if I'm being honest) but when I think about my job at Bright Star Ranch, the people I get to work with, and the progress we get to make as individuals and as a non-profit, I ABSOLUTELY feel lucky!! Our Books in the Barn event on Thursday went great! The weather was perfect. The kids and horses were all well behaved and it couldn't have gone any smoother!

There were lots of smiles and giggles as books were being ready and we enjoyed all the reports we got in the weeks leading up to the event about kids being excited and practicing with their books so they'd be ready. That tells me we fulfilled our purpose, which was to inspire kids to read more. For those that missed it, we will plan to do it again. So always be on watch for upcoming events!

There's been a lot of rain lately but that doesn't take away from all the smiles and the quality time that our participants have gotten to spend with their furry friends. There has been LOTS of grooming (much needed), some reading, walking/talking, and of course, plenty of hugs and kisses! ๐Ÿ˜˜ Rainy days are still bright days at the barn, where all can seem right for just a little while!

A Dream Come True....

As a young girl, I always wanted a ranch....I never knew until four years ago that a dream such as this could also involve helping children and adults to have a hope for their future with the use of therapeutic equine activities and services. I have watched in the past few years children overcome fears, apprehensions, and disabilities to live more confidently and find happiness with the help of a four-legged animal who loved them unconditionally. Iโ€™ve seen veterans find strength again and the will to live by riding and realizing that they still can participate in something that once was considered an inability for them to do. People of all ages are affected by just the presence of an animal who I know in my heart was made to help us all. But most of all, I know the One who gave me this dream and who helped me to reach my goals in becoming certified as a riding instructor. It is only through Him that Iโ€™ve been given this opportunity to serve Him in a way I never dreamed possible as that young little girl. The Scripture I have leaned on so much through these past four years has been, โ€œI can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, Philippians 4:13.โ€ I believe with all my heart that for each individual and family that comes to Bright Star Ranch, He is saying to them that He will be with them through this journey as well and give them and their children the strength they need to have a more abundant life. Never stop dreaming.....and never stop thanking all the ones around us who helped make this possible, too!

Debbie Bright-Chunn, Certified Riding Instructor
