🇺🇸 As a reminder, our office will be CLOSED on Tuesday, July 4th, in honor of Independence Day. 🇺🇸

Reminders to our pet parents:

❤️ 1) Consider keeping your pets at home while you are at parties, fireworks, parades, or other events. Loud fireworks, large crowds, and unfamiliar places can be scary and stressful to pets. If you bring your pets to these gatherings, please ensure they wear ID tags and that their microchips are registered and up-to-date.

🤍 2) Keep alcohol out of reach! Ingestion of alcoholic beverages can be toxic to your furry friend. Signs of alcohol poisoning include staggering, decreased reflexes, and excessive urination.

💙 3) Avoid feeding your pets table scraps or foods that aren't a regular part of your pet's diet. High-fat foods can lead to pancreatitis, causing vomiting and diarrhea. Additionally, many foods, such as those containing garlic or onions, are toxic to our pets. Ensure trash is out of reach, and remind visitors not to give any treats!

❤️ 4) Keep sparklers, fireworks, glow sticks, kabob skewers, and all potentially dangerous items away from curious pets. Additionally, do not let pets near the grill while in use or when it is hot.

If your pet needs emergency medical attention, two of our local 24/7 emergency hospitals are listed below.

AVETS (412) 373 - 4200
2674 Monroeville Blvd, Monroeville, PA 15146

PVSEC (412) 366 - 3400

Our office will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, July 5th.

Everyone at NPVH had a wonderful time meeting this sweet St. Bernard named Moose! He came in on Friday for an annual physical exam with Dr. Bill and received his DHPPC and Rabies vaccinations. 🐾

The DHPPC is a 5-in-1 vaccine that vaccinates against canine distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and coronavirus. Despite some myths, the distemper vaccine does not give puppies a good temperament! Canine distemper virus is a contagious disease that attacks canines' respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems.

Vaccinations are vital to protect your pup from these viruses! Puppies will need a series of vaccinations, then will be on an immunization schedule to ensure they are kept up-to-date.

It was so nice to meet you, Bolt! ⚡️

Bolt came to see us today for his first vet visit at NPVH! Dr. Angie gave him a thorough physical examination and his initial puppy vaccines. We sent a complete f***l analysis to idexx , and he went home with his first dose of parasite preventatives, Sentinel and Nexgard.

We can't wait to watch you grow handsome boy!

As a reminder, our office will be CLOSED on Monday, May 29th, in honor of Memorial Day.

Reminders to our pet parents:

1) Remind visitors not to give any treats! That means no table scrapes or foods that aren't a regular part of your pet's diet. High-fat foods can lead to pancreatitis, causing vomiting and diarrhea. Additionally, foods containing onions or garlic can lead to toxicity, causing vomiting, diarrhea, a rapid heart rate, tremors, and seizures. Our furry friends can sniff out snacks from unsupervised plates and garbage bins, so ensure trash is out of reach.

2) Keep alcohol out of reach! Ingestion of alcoholic beverages can be toxic to your furry friend. Signs of alcohol poisoning include staggering, decreased reflexes, and excessive urination. Again, ensure trash is out of reach!

3) Beware of heat stroke! The high in Pittsburgh tomorrow is 87 degrees Fahrenheit (maybe even warmer)! Whether doing a BBQ at home or with friends or family, consider leaving your pet inside OR ensure there will be a cold, shaded area outdoors. Warning signs of heatstroke include difficulty breathing, heavy panting, excessive drooling, vomiting, lethargy, and incoordination.
