The Piatt County Animal Shelter is no-kill shelter, operating on donations from the public to help educate the public about animal welfare issues and find homes for animals in need. We promote spay/neutering, vaccinating, and microchipping in our adoption and education programs. Foster families and volunteers help prepare animals for a new forever family and are vital in assessing an animals' personality for the perfect fit into the right home.

🐾 Meet Polly & Hayden! 🐾

Polly and Hayden are two sweet kitties currently residing in the community cat room at the shelter. While they aren’t a bonded pair, they’ve formed a special friendship and would love to go to the same home—but it’s not required!

✨ About Hayden:
A striking dark grey tabby who came to the shelter as a young, unsocialized kitten with his brothers.
Loves being brushed and is incredibly food motivated.
A social butterfly who gets along great with other cats—especially Polly!

✨ About Polly:
A gentle and lovable girl who arrived at the shelter as a young kitten with her brother.
A little shy at first but quickly warms up and loves attention.
Food motivated and wonderful with other cats, including her buddy Hayden.

Both Polly and Hayden would make fantastic companions in the right home. They may need a little time to adjust to new surroundings, but with patience and love, their playful and affectionate personalities will shine. Adopting them together would be a bonus, but they’ll thrive individually, too! ❤️

🐾 Meet Cocoa Puff & Janet! 🐾

These two adorable black kittens have a story as sweet as their names! Cocoa Puff and Janet came to us as newborn strays, just one day old, with their mom, Pebbles, and five siblings. Pebbles was a superstar mom, not only caring for her own litter but also nursing five additional orphaned kittens. 🍼💕

Now a little older, these sweet siblings are ready to find their forever home. Both are incredibly food-motivated (snacks are definitely the way to their hearts!) and have a gentle, shy demeanor that blossoms with a little patience and love. 💕

After Pebbles found her forever home, Cocoa Puff and Muffin took a little time to adjust but now feel right at home in our community kitten room. They love spending their days playing with their roommates, napping in sunny windows, and enjoying the occasional brushing session – which they both adore! 🛋️🌞✨

While they may start off a little shy, these sweethearts warm up quickly with gentle coaxing and thrive on routine. They’d be perfect companions for someone who’s ready to show them the love and stability they deserve. 🐾🐈

Raja is a stunning 3 ½-year-old boy with a gentle soul and a big heart. He came to us after his owner, sadly, became homeless and had to relinquish him and his brother, Binx. Raja experienced a difficult past, including domestic violence in the home, which made him defensive when he first arrived.

But with time, love, and a quiet, stable environment, Raja has blossomed into an affectionate and playful companion.

✨ What Raja Loves:
💖 Being brushed and cuddled—he soaks up all the love and attention he can get!
🎾 Playtime! Raja enjoys having fun and showing his playful side.
☀️ A calm, stress-free routine where he can feel safe and secure.

🩺 Health Notes: Raja is currently on a special diet to prevent UTIs and will need to stay on it to keep him healthy.

🐾 Meet Tweedy – A Loving Cat Looking for His Forever Home! 🐾

Tweedy is a buff-colored, 5-year-old neutered male who is up to date on all his vaccines. This affectionate boy loves attention, enjoys playing, and is comfortable around dogs.

Tweedy was an indoor/outdoor cat before coming to the Piatt County Animal Shelter. As part of our procedures, he was tested for common feline diseases and was found to be FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus).

💡 What does this mean?

FIV cannot be transmitted to humans or dogs.
It only spreads to other cats through deep bite wounds or breeding.
With proper care, FIV+ cats can live long, happy lives! Keeping him indoors with plenty of love and attention will ensure he thrives.

Want to meet Tweedy? 🐱 You can find him in the main lobby of the Animal Hospital of Monticello on Bridge Street. The staff there would be happy to answer any questions about caring for an FIV+ cat.

But with patience and a little love, we discovered his soft spot—he adores being brushed! That’s how we earned his trust, and now he’s ready for a forever home.

Billy and Bella came to us after their owner expressed concern about their health. They stayed with their mom until they were weaned, and we’re happy to share that Mom has been spayed and returned to her loving family.

These sweet siblings are a bit shy and awkward with handling, but their love for food and treats (and a good brushing!) quickly helps them come out of their shells. With a little patience and TLC, they’ll make wonderful companions.

Billy and Bella have already made great progress in both foster and shelter settings, and while it may take them some time to adjust to a new home, their potential to thrive is clear. They also have two siblings, Brody and Bernice, who are currently working on their socialization skills in a foster setting.

If you’re looking for a pair of lovable, food-motivated companions who just need a little extra encouragement to shine, Billy and Bella might be the perfect match for you! ❤️

Meet Millie! 🐾 This sweet girl has been with us for a while now and is still patiently waiting for her forever home. Millie came to us as a stray kitten from Milmine and has been adopted a few times, but through no fault of her own, she’s back with us and ready to try again. When Millie first came to the shelter, we noticed she needed chiropractic care, so she’s been receiving regular treatments. Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful chiropractor, Millie’s care has been discounted, and she’s made amazing progress—going from weekly sessions to just once every eight weeks. Millie is a snuggly, loving girl who will melt your heart with her huge purrs and belly rolls! She adores cuddles and loves rolling around in her "cuddle bin," making her the perfect companion for anyone looking for a sweet, laid-back kitty. 💕 Video attached is Millie giving lots of lovies to one of your volunteers!
