Posting this a day early (so I don't forget), please pretend it's July 1.
Eleven years ago today, one of the most beautiful beasts I've ever laid eyes on was born in the Sandwash Basin. It would be five years before we met and another two years before our paths would cross. That last part is essential for this post.
While The King and I may have been destined in some form or fashion to meet, it is clear that there was another component-The Rock. Had it not been for The Horsewoman and The Rock, the likelihood of The King and I coming together at the time would have been very slim. By the time Kim reached out to me, I was running out of hope I'd find a place to keep him. Everything happens for a reason, and I received a text with a question that would forever change my life.
The King and I may never have the ability to fully repay the debt we were afforded when Kim and The Rock gave me a place for him to call home, but I would like to at least try. As we start this new month of July, it's The King's birthday month, and we're going to follow suit on what we tried to do with Flashy.
While The King has a peasant who is responsible for his financial needs, his birthday wish is for items that The Rock needs to not just take care of him, but to take care of all the horses that call The Rock home. We know that times are tough and that money is anything but a luxury. Due to this, we don't like having to ask for donations of any kind, but as a non-profit organization, we have no choice. It is your support and donations that keep us afloat and help keep our horses well cared for, allowing them to do what they do best: provide that therapeutic solace that only an animal, a horse, can offer.
If you have the money and are looking for a good cause, please consider The Rock. Below is a list of items that we need for The King and the locals. I've also provided links. Some items can be sent to us directly, while others can be dropped off at The Rock. If you're unable to do either and would like to make a cash donation, we'll accept whatever amount you can spare. Even if it's only sharing, we'll take that too.
Wish List:
Dewormer
Nutrena Senior Feed
Alfalfa
Sweet Feed
Bedding
Psyllium
Hoof Supplements
Peppermints (If you've met The King, you know he insisted that be on there).
Fly Spray
Gift Cards to Tractor Supply or Rural King (for any of the above items)
A new halter for Flashy (He pretends she means nothing to him, but he's a sucker for paints).
Sponsoring a farrier visit for one of the locals (The peasant's got The King covered)
Sponsoring a bale of hay
These are the main items we need the most. Outside of Flashy's new halter, everything else is a monthly expense. Feed alone costs upwards of $600 to cover the horses. The Psyllium is to help prevent sand colic. These are on our wishlist, but they are essential to the health of our horses. I'm not trying to play on guilt; I'm just trying to explain why we ask for these items.
Again, we know that money is tight. It's not a luxury, and we would never pretend it is. If you can donate one of the items or the cash towards one of the items, we are forever grateful. If all you can do is share our posts, we appreciate that, too. Whatever you can do, support goes a long way, and we appreciate you either way.
The Peasant
