This is unfortunate result of owning a small business. Elysian Fields Equestrian Center is currently valued at about $750,000: The boarding rate at $600 a month is fair and true. You get what you pay for, and at Elysian Fields you get above and beyond!

The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business.

Running a business is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message or call someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages, emails and phone calls.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner... All while being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend... it’s one of the hardest things you will try and balance. If you give your time, you will sacrifice financial benefit. If you strive for financial benefit, you will have to sacrifice your time. It’s just the way it goes when your business is relying on you to survive and you’re relying on your business to provide!

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small businesses... and hopefully more of us will stick around!

Montoursville, PA

The 4th Annual Haunted Barn of Tallman Hollow.

3 miles North from Montoursville Walmart on rte 87, you’ll pass a plane and a train on the left, look for this big sign by the pontoon boat on the right and take that right and follow 1.3 miles up Tallman Hollow Road to the next sign, left into the entrance.

Fun for all ages and we do get a lot of praise for this. The haunted barn absolutely will not scare the socks off most older teens. The young ones will absolutely enjoy it. Everyone can ride a horse and the hay ride provided by C.H. Waltz Sons, Inc., these are all included with admission. There is also hatchet throwing/darts, adult beverages and pizza from Boom City Brewing Company,LLC, food trucks, pet and feed the horses carrots, there are 22 horses to meet! Live DJ Jammin' James, face painting by Pfirman's Face Painting And Enchanted Crafts and other craft vendors; be sure to check out Christopher Cox (Hillbilly Mr. Wizard) for one of a kind hand-made crafts.

We would also like to thank Allison Crane & Rigging and Heavy Haul for providing industrial lighting to light up our parking areas, helping to keep our visitors safe and easier to find their vehicles after sunset.

We are rain or shine as everything is indoors except the hay ride and food trucks.

Thankyou for your support, we hope all that are local can make it out and have a great time!

Florence Wolfe, hands down with the most votes!
The cats name is now ‘Pumpkin’. We hope you are local to the area as you’ve one a Free carload pass to the 4th Annual Haunted Barn of Tallman Hollow!

Who wants to name our new barn cat?

*** UPDATE *** ~ this post has been up about an hour and already almost 20 responses. So, feel free to smash that ‘like’ button to cast a vote. We will give it a few days and let our students make the final decision from the top 3. Winner receives a carload pass to the 4th Annual Haunted Barn of Tallman Hollow, happening this weekend and next weekend.

This is our newest barn cat. She is a rescue from Heidi’s Furry Friends Rescue Inc, a nonprofit 501(c)3 out of Williamsport, PA. She is ferile and was trapped at Lowe’s in Montoursville, PA several months ago. She has since been spayed and UTD on all vaccinations, including rabies.

Anyone who has been to the farm and used the bathroom in the barn has met her. She’s not overly friendly but did take scratchies from certain people while she was acclimatizing to the new environment, noises and smells from her cage in the bathroom.

This takes time for a cat like this to get used to and it can be a slow process. The worst thing that can happen is for a cat like this to not accept her surroundings and run off to get hit by a car or found by coyotes or other predators in the woods.

A couple of months ago, we moved her and her cage to another area of the barn so the other barn cats could more easily approach her and they could get used to her. A few weeks ago, we opened her door and left her to decide where she wants to go.

The last couple of weeks, this is where she hangs out. If Rob is out relaxing on the porch, she’ll be there! She still won’t come close but stays close enough.

Overall, it’s been a success.

Now, she just needs a name? Go ahead and post your suggestions in the comments below. 😊

🐴 Here are 15 interesting facts about a horse's brain:.
1. A horse’s brain is relatively small compared to the size of its body, and accounts for only about 0.1% of its total weight.
2. Despite their small size, horses have very complex brains, with a highly developed cerebral cortex, the part of the brain responsible for conscious thought, decision-making and memory.
3. Horses can learn and remember complex tasks, such as navigating a jump course or performing a dressage routine, through a process called associate learning.
4. Like humans, horses have a left hemisphere and a right hemisphere in the brain, each with specialized functions. The left hemisphere is responsible for the processing of logical and analytical information, while the right hemisphere is more involved in emotional processing and creative thinking.
5. Horses have a great memory and can remember specific people, places and experiences for many years.
6. Horses can learn by observation, and often they can acquire new behaviors and skills simply by observing other horses or humans.
7. Horses have a very sensitive sense of touch and can detect even the slightest pressure or movement on their skin. This helps them respond to subtle cues from your rider or guide.
8. Horses can process visual information very quickly and accurately, allowing them to avoid potential hazards and navigate their environment with ease.
9. Horses are social animals and rely on nonverbal communication to interact with other horses in their herd. This communication is facilitated by the horse’s brain, which can interpret subtle changes in body language, facial expressions and vocalizations.
10. Ultimately, like all animals, horses have a unique personality and individual traits that are shaped by their experiences, genetics and environment—all of which is reflected in their brain function and behavior.
11. Horses have a very strong sense of smell and their odor bulb, which processes smells, is relatively large compared to other parts of their brain.
12. The brain, which is responsible for coordinating movement and balance, is also relatively large in horses. This is because horses must be able to move quickly and efficiently to escape predators or navigate through difficult terrain.
13. Horses have a very high pain threshold, which is believed to be related to how their brains process pain signals. While this can be beneficial in some situations, it can also mean that horses may not show obvious signs of pain, making it harder for their caregivers to detect and treat underlying health issues.
14. The hippocampus, a part of the brain involved in learning and memory, is particularly well developed in horses.. This allows them to remember not only specific experiences, but also general concepts and patterns that they can apply to new situations.
15. Finally, studies have shown that horses, like other animals, are capable of experiencing emotions such as fear, happiness, and anger. These emotions are believed to be mediated by the limbic system, a group of interconnected brain structures that play a key role in regulating mood and behavior.

The Ball Python at Lycoming County SPCA is officially up for adoption; apparently the owner did not come forward.

A Ball Python is probably one of the easiest snakes to take care of. Perfect your your young ‘wanna-be’ herpetologist.

They don’t get huge (4-5ft), are very well mannered and really don’t eat a lot. They are also very gentle and easily handled.

If this is something your young teen is interested in, check it out and let them learn a little responsibility. Seriously, they are easier to care for than a goldfish!
