The Mitzvah Fund started in 2006 and became a 501 C3 in 2014. We are a small but mighty group of mostly volunteer veterinary professionals that strive to help the less fortunate. Owning a pet should not have to be a luxury but in today's economy even basic veterinary care can be daunting, especially to senior citizens on fixed incomes. We have helped hundreds of animals. As of February 2022 we hav

e a fully equipped mobile veterinary surgery and dentistry unit based out of Montpelier, VT. On Fridays we see scheduled appointments in downtown Montpelier in front of city hall. We do surgery two days a week out of our home base in East Montpelier. We also try to help rescue organizations that are trying to care for and rehome special needs animals. However, we do not pay other animal hospitals to do work for patients under our care. We currently service only Central Vermont citizens but hope to expand in the future. We will be shvitzing Mitzvahs all over VT in the very near future!

🧥🐾 Dog Coat Distribution Update!

As the weather turns colder, The Mitzvah Fund wants to help keep our community’s four-legged friends warm this winter.

Instead of a single giveaway event, we’ll have dog coats available every Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM at the Montpelier Transit Center — except for Friday, November 28th (the day after Thanksgiving).

If your dog needs a coat, please text 802-461-3277 or email [email protected] with the following info so we can bring the right size:
🐶 Owner name
🐕 Dog breed
⚖️ Weight
📏 Length (collar to base of tail)

We’ll provide one coat per dog until we’re sure every pup who needs one gets one.

You can drop off coats to give away on Fridays at the Transit station or Guys Farm and Yard Montpelier any day of the week Thanks!!!!!

We are honored to share that The Mitzvah Fund was recently the beneficiary of the Lawson’s Finest Sunshine Fund, resulting in a generous donation of $17,282.03 to support our mission.

This contribution directly helps us provide veterinary care and wellness support to the beloved companion animals of older adults, veterans, first responders, and neighbors facing hardship. Every dollar helps keep families and their pets healthy, safe, and together.

So much cuteness and kind folks is what keeps us going! Our clients, our Montpelier police officers make our existence possible daily and our amazing business partners make all our efforts possible!!!! We get so so so much joy from a happy outcome. Molly is a 9 year old Chihuahua. She loves everyone and everything. She had 13 teeth extracted by Dr. Kayla. She had the coolest and weirdest abnormality. Thanks to the Barre Elks club we have a small enough dental probe to catch this abnormality. Her right lower canine lays completely under the skin in the canal and supports the entire jaw!

Her mom loved our recovery team alot. PD Pete should have a nurses cap! Carat was along for the petting potential!

Thanks to the Barre Elks for our new cat and dog specific anesthedia monitor!! The Nelcor science is specific to littles so our 4 pound patient had very carefully crafted anesthesia monitoring. She was a tough anesthetic patient but let us get thru 4 hours of extractions!

The Mitzvah Fund makes regular visits to the market, connecting with our community and continuing our mission to provide veterinary care for those in need — helping pets and the people who love them. ❤️🐾

Come say hi to our staff and volunteers, meet some of our four-legged friends and clients, and explore all the market has to offer — from fresh produce and local goods to live music and warm smiles.

A Mitzvah is a random act of kindness or a worthy deed.

The Mitzvah Fund started in 2006 and became a 501 C3 in 2013. We are a small but mighty group of volunteer veterinary professionals that strive to help the less fortunate. Owning a pet should not have to be a luxury but in today's economy even basic veterinary care can be daunting, especially to senior citizens on fixed incomes. We have helped hundreds of animals. Since we no longer work out of our own animal hospital we are very fortunate to have teamed up with Stonecliff Veterinary Surgical Center in Montpelier, VT. On Fridays we rent their facility and provide veterinary surgical and dentistry options for qualifying senior citizens and rescue organizations that are trying to care for and rehome special need animals. We currently service only Central Vermont seniors but hope to expand in the future.
