The Mitzvah Fund, Inc

The Mitzvah Fund, Inc We offer veterinary surgery and dentistry to low income seniors, veterans & disabled first responders A Mitzvah is a kindness or a worthy deed. Done selflessly.

The Mitzvah Fund started in 2006 and became a 501 C3 in 2014. We are a small but mighty group of mostly volunteer veterinary professionals that strive to help the less fortunate. Owning a pet should not have to be a luxury but in today's economy even basic veterinary care can be daunting, especially to senior citizens on fixed incomes. We have helped hundreds of animals. As of February 2022 we hav

e a fully equipped mobile veterinary surgery and dentistry unit based out of Montpelier, VT. On Fridays we see scheduled appointments in downtown Montpelier in front of city hall. We do surgery two days a week out of our home base in East Montpelier. We also try to help rescue organizations that are trying to care for and rehome special needs animals. However, we do not pay other animal hospitals to do work for patients under our care. We currently service only Central Vermont citizens but hope to expand in the future. We will be shvitzing Mitzvahs all over VT in the very near future!

Sometimes we are reminded how blessed we are to do what we do. Meet Jo-Z. Too much cuteness. She needs a dental but she is as close to perfect as can be.

This week, we pause with deep gratitude to honor the dedicated officers of the Montpelier Police Department. Your unwavering service, courage, and commitment to protecting our community do not go unnoticed.

National Police Week was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, who signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the surrounding week as a time to honor law enforcement officers across the nation. It’s a time for remembrance, respect, and recognition of those who put their lives on the line to keep us safe.

To the men and women of Montpelier PD—thank you for your integrity, sacrifice, and everyday heroism. We stand with you today and always.

Hey folks. Today we had a pretty terrible hate crime occur. Can not be more thankful to Montpelier Police Department. The chief was literally with us in under 2 minutes and we never even dialed 911.
Our staff and a client were deeply affected. I would like to find a group counselor that could help us thru this. The person was very upset about genocide and the middle east. If anyone can give us some good advice regarding finding a good local resource for our staff to talk and understand this level of mental illness and trauma I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!!

Graphic Content Warning!

Meet Roxy! A doll of a hound Pitty mix. Her senior mom adores her and has been struggling to afford surgery for this girl. Since October she has watch a large cyst grow and grow and knew it desperately needed to come off. Nelow the cyst she also had a mass that was bothering her terribly and she constantly licked it.

She found the Mitzvah Fund and we hurried her to our surgery schedule so the cyst/ mass would not get too much bigger.

So this was our day. 4 hours of surgery. 7 packets of suture and she lost 3.4 pounds!!!

We would love to send the mass and the irregular cyst for hystopathology to find out what they are but we are so busy we have to save our pennys. If anyone would like to help us raise the money for this or donate to Roxy’s extensive care please go to:

https://www.themitzvahfundvt.org
and Donate in Roxy’s honor. We will take the first $262 raised and credit her for the histopathology of the masses. Our team loves knowledge and we would appreciate it as much as her mom!!

Her incision is huge and very hard to close. She barely had enough skin and Dr. Connie mattressed the skin to the body wall so she would not need a drain or get a huge seroma (fluid filled swelling) from the massive dead space left by the mass. Not an easy closure or a beautiful one but speed and seroma free healing was at the top of our priority list!

We shall see this lovely lady back in two weeks for a suture removal and we shall see how incredible it will look. Updates to follow!

We are feeling like we are the go to place for enormous crazy tumor removal’s!

So sometimes when it rains it pours. Same week as Zeke. Meet Trixie. Needs dental and internal medicine work up. In foster with Potters Angels Rescue. A little doll that lost her home because her mom couldn’t afford her medical care. Too cute and lovely❤️❤️ PD Pete is literally afraid of her humongous existence and gave her his sweet potato and left to pout in the corner. She will have exploratory surgery and a dental when she is feeling better. Poor girl. Potters Angels Resue is also fostering this lovely itty bitty!

Sometimes it takes a village. This lovely boy was found by an animal control officer that also volunteers for Potters Angels rescue. He had horrific dental disease. His mouth was ulcerated and he could not even close it. We debulked and removed all but three canines that will come out in the near future once he heals. He literally could not walk because his toe nails were so long. He will be a long term foster for PAR and we will be seeing him again in a few weeks to finish his extractions. Zeke will take a village to heal. Please send good thoughts and support to Potters Angels Rescue for Safe harboring this cutie. He is already placed once all his medical procedures are done. ❤️❤️

Our Story

A Mitzvah is a random act of kindness or a worthy deed.

The Mitzvah Fund started in 2006 and became a 501 C3 in 2013. We are a small but mighty group of volunteer veterinary professionals that strive to help the less fortunate. Owning a pet should not have to be a luxury but in today's economy even basic veterinary care can be daunting, especially to senior citizens on fixed incomes. We have helped hundreds of animals. Since we no longer work out of our own animal hospital we are very fortunate to have teamed up with Stonecliff Veterinary Surgical Center in Montpelier, VT. On Fridays we rent their facility and provide veterinary surgical and dentistry options for qualifying senior citizens and rescue organizations that are trying to care for and rehome special need animals. We currently service only Central Vermont seniors but hope to expand in the future.
