I have some exciting news to announce!!
September is national service dog month, I am a couple weeks early but....we have puppies!
Pure bred Labrador Retrievers
This post is going to be a long one but please stay with me.
The dog world is saturated with puppies, especially unwanted puppies. Our shelters are currently full of dogs looking for homes.
However I made the decision to breed my female, and this was not made lightly. Over the course of about 3 years I search for reputable breeders, I temperament tested a prospect and later health tested and genetic both her and a potential stud.
Service Dogs are not pets, they are highly trained working dogs.
Is it possible for a shelter or rescue dog to become a service dog? Yes!
However, when getting a rescue we often do not know the breed, without this it is hard to estimate size when full grown, it is hard to know genetics, and breed specific traits that the dog could develop after maturity.
I have also worked with many breeders in and out of the state and will continue to do so, but finding reputable breeders is hard, finding breeders that alow me to temperament test at an appropriate age is near impossible, and finding good breeders that are affordable for my clients... well you can have one or the other.
This brought me to the decision to breed, and I was blessed with a beautiful litter of 8!
Over the past 8 weeks these puppies have been handled and loved on, they did ENS (early neurological stimulation), and have been working on socialization with people, different environments, many dogs, other animals, noises, etc.
They were finally temperament tested and 4 of the 8 puppies will be entering our service dog program! They will be trained as Seizure alert and assistance dogs, as well as Phyciatric assistance.
The 4 puppies that will not be joining the program are still fantastic dogs! They are available as pet dogs for those who are interested, they show great promise for therapy dogs, and/ or sport dogs too. Mom and dad are both from hunting dogs lines.
Out of the 4 that are available for adoption there is one Male black lab, 1 female black lab, and 2 female yellow labs.
They have had a puppy wellness visit, are microchipped, have had their first vaccines and are ready to go! If you are interested please message me.
