Effective November 18, 2021, Montrose Animal Services will not share "courtesy posts" or any information about animals that are not in the custody of Montrose Animal Services. The purpose of the City of Montrose Animal Services adoption program is to find responsible, lifelong homes for animals that are suitable as family companions. Making such matches requires us to know the needs of the animals to be placed and that of their prospective adopters. We want to ensure that the animal will not be placed in a home where it may fail to be provided adequate food, water, shelter, veterinary care, and companionship. We also want to ensure that the animal is not placed with owners who allow them to roam the neighborhood, violate animal control laws, or reproduce adding to the community’s burden of unwanted animals. The City of Montrose Animal Services follows certain guidelines when considering an applicant for adoption of a pet. Some items that are taken into consideration are: adopter suitability for specific pet, adopter’s history of animal ownership, reason for wanting to adopt, suitable confinement, and children in the household and their ages. The City of Montrose Animal Services reserves the right to refuse to adopt an animal based on our adoption policy. The City of Montrose Animal Services does not adopt pets to be used as gifts. Before adopting any animal, The City of Montrose Animal Services asks that you consider your ability to provide the animal its basic needs, including food, shelter, companionship, veterinary care, grooming, training, and exercise. Special requirements of the breed and its suitability to your household should also be considered. The City of Montrose Animal Services will ask you to fill out a 2-page application and go through your background check. You must be over 21 years old. If you rent, we need your landlord's approval first. You can bring your rental lease stating that you are allowed to have pets in the property. Sometimes the landlord requires a pet deposit. It should be done first. We need to see your driver's license and current address. If your driver’s license doesn’t have the current address, bring proof of residence(utility bill, mail, etc) that states your name and current address. If you reside within the City of Montrose, you may have 2 dogs and 2 cats. All Adoptions are considered final. If for any reason you wish to return the adopted animal, you may do so within one week of the adoption date, with no consequences. After the one-week period, the animal may be returned; however, you will be subject to a relinquishment fee(in effect at the time of return). ADOPTION FEE WILL NOT BE REFUNDED for any animal returned to the shelter. Please understand that our questions are not meant to be intrusive or suspicious. Our careful approach to making satisfying, lifelong matches can spare your family a painful experience. For the animal, however, it can be a matter of life or death. Each pet in the Shelter has experienced at least one broken bond already.

Meet our amazing fetcher, Loona! She appears to be a mix of Border Collie and Pit Bull and is in excellent shape. Loona is young, energetic, and full of joy—she absolutely loves retrieving tennis balls! She always brings the ball right back to your feet and is eager for more playtime. Additionally, she is housebroken. While she does pull on the leash, using a halti harness or gentle leader may help manage her energy. Come and meet her today!

Jody, one of our long-term and dedicated dog walker volunteers, reports that DINO is doing wonderfully and is ready to go home!

"Dino and I went for a nice long walk along the Colorado Outdoors trail and all around Cerise Park. I discovered that (1) Although he is very strong and can pull hard, most of the time, he walked nicely on the leash and didn't pull me; (2) He was not at all aggressive or domineering with other dogs on the trail (just curious), was friendly thru the fence with dogs in the dog park, and was totally nice to an off-leash dog who approached him at Cerise. In general, he is a very mellow, gentle guy who enjoys your attention but doesn't really expect it."

We’re so sorry to share that our beautiful German Shepherd, Roder, has come to us after the passing of his beloved owner of five years. This transition is undoubtedly hard for him, and we want to help him find a loving new home. Roder is currently on a healthy diet to help him shed a few extra pounds, but aside from that, he is doing quite well. He is housebroken and walks nicely on a leash, making him a great companion. We aren't sure how he feels about cats or other dogs, so we encourage you to schedule a meet and greet to see if he would be a good fit for your family. Roder truly deserves a place where he can be cherished once again. Come and meet him today.

Introducing our stunning long-haired calico, Rosemary! At approximately 2 years old, she embodies sweetness and affection. Her luxurious fur is incredibly soft, making her the perfect cuddle companion for those cozy evenings at home.

Rosemary has a charming personality and gets along wonderfully with other cats, making her an ideal addition to a multi-pet household. She is spayed, and we have ensured her health by confirming she is negative for both FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus).

In addition to being dewormed, she is microchipped, vaccinated against common feline diseases, and completely ready to embark on her new journey to a loving forever home. If you’re looking for a sweet companion to bring joy and warmth to your life, Rosemary is the perfect match!

**MISSION: FIND A HOME FOR DINO**

He will be at Chow Down Pet Supplies Inc. this Saturday (1/11/2025) at 11 a.m.!

Dino has been with us since January 19, 2024, and will have spent a full year with us this January. He hasn't found a home yet because he looks bulky and somewhat intimidating. He came to us from another agency, where he stayed for 10 months.

We initially believed he should be the only pet in the household. However, we've observed different aspects of his personality during our care. While unsure about his compatibility with cats, he may get along with other dogs. Dino is calm, solid, independent, confident, and mature. We are looking for a loving home that can appreciate these qualities.

Dino is our longest-term resident and has so much to offer, even though he has been overlooked many times. He is housebroken, listens well, and has experience being around other dogs. With a slow introduction, he is happy to meet them. However, Dino is quite independent and perfectly content as the only dog receiving your attention.

He rarely barks and loves a good round of belly rubs and pets. He likes to wiggle on his back. Dino is also patient with children! He enjoys walks and loves to take in the sights and smells of the landscape. We have taken him to many events, and he interacts wonderfully with other dogs and people alike.

We highly recommend scheduling a meet-and-greet with him. Just like humans, he may not click with every dog, but he has the potential to become best friends with the right one.
Let's give Dino a chance to find his forever human! Please share, share, and share! Thank you.

Many thanks to:

We're thrilled to announce that our beautiful Aussie, Mandy, has found her forever home! She came to us as a stray and was initially very shy. After a few days, she began to perk up a little but was still unsure about her surroundings. Then she met her new mom, who shares her name, and it was clear that their bond was special. Now, Mandy is happily sleeping and snuggling with her new mom! We couldn't be happier for our sweet pup. Congratulations, and thank you for adopting! Please keep us updated on her journey.

Patty has been with us since early September 2024. She is a submissive dog who loves to roll over and ask for belly rubs. Due to her stress in the kennel environment and some signs of reactivity towards other dogs, she may need to be the only pet in the household. Patty is looking for that special someone who can provide her with love and care just as she is!
