We had a great time at The Stone House for our Christmas dinner out to celebrate the holidays together. We had quite a great turnout! The food was wonderful, the company excellent! It was a great time of mingling with some of our newer members and those who've been coming for awhile, getting to know our "neighbors" that were sitting right around us. This dinner is always a highlight and takes the place of both our meeting and Field trip for December since the holidays can get so busy later in December. Please consider joining us next year. We'd love to have you!

What a great turnout today for the 1st meeting of our '24/'25 season! 32 people were in attendance, about 6 came with our speakers. Liz Gracesun spoke to us about the Montrose Recreation Center, specifically about the 50+/Active Adults Recreation opportunities, and all the ways to find out about them via her email list, via the Golden Circle Senior Scene newsletter or through The Pavilion Senior Center. We also heard from Stacey Ryan, of the Valley Symphony Association, on their upcoming season which kicks off with 4 free to the public concerts, 4x this month; 2 performances of the Orchestra and 2 from their Chorus. She also shared about the themes of their upcoming planned performances this season. Last but not least, we heard from Carrie Franks regarding volunteer opportunities with Region 10 in their RSVP Program ( Retired Seniors Volunteer Program). They partner with many organizations, on the Western Slope, to help with a wide variety of community services such as taking meals to Seniors, providing companionship to Seniors aging in place, etc. They appreciate the diversity of skillsets & help that their volunteers bring to help many in our community in a wide variety of ways, especially to Seniors and kids aging out of foster care.

Our Group is run via committee now and we had a planning meeting at 11am at Horsefly on 6/12/24. We had a great turnout of those wishing to help plan our next year's Guest Speakers, Field Trips, our Summer Picnic and Christmas dinner out. Alot of folks stepped up to fill roles, volunteer for duties, or to find Guest Speakers and share Field Trip ideas. Everyone seemed to take part. Many hands make light work!

We have Ladies Coffees, year round, on the 4th Wednesday of each month. Our Ladies Coffee in May was to Ladybird in Colona, CO. It's such a cute place and the food was absolutely delicious! They had loaves of bread sitting out to purchase, delicious scones, even a gluten free friendly scone. They had trays of cookies, brownies and other items like breakfast burritos. You will not be disappointed in the food! They had a wide variety of breakfast/brunch type drinks also. We enjoyed our time there together!

The last meeting, of our '23/'24 season was 5/1/24 at 10am at the Pavilion Senior Center. Seth Ryan, our District Attorney, was our Guest Speaker. He gave each of us a big packet, with lots of information about our Court system, crime statistics, jury information, interesting court cases, etc. It was very educational. We also discussed checking out the Hotchkiss Sheep Camp Stock Dog trials for our May Field trip.

We usually take Field Trips on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, September - May. April's Field Trip was to a local shoemaking company called SOM Footwear (aka Sense of Motion Footwear) on Wednesday, 4/17/24 at 10am. We got to tour their facility and learn all about how they got started, how they make their shoes, etc. A few from our tour even purchased some shoes there. This tour was very interesting & informative.

A representative from Second Chance Animal Shelter came to speak to us at our regular meeting, which was held on the 1st Wednesday of April, 4/3/24 at 10am at the Pavilion Senior Center. We have a few from our group who volunteer there regularly. They familiarized us with what they do, the volunteer opportunities they have and ways we can support them. Their mission is: "Connecting Pets, People & Community while saving lives." They care deeply about this and they are a great place to support, volunteer at, or adopt a cat or dog from. 💗

Our March '24 Field Trip was to Sharing Food Ministries. We took a tour of their facilty and heard all about what they do and the volunteer help they need. They do great work keeping our community fed by providing food to folks in need. What a caring organization!

We had a great & very interesting tour of Particular Tile at 1825 Launa Drive in Montrose on Wednesday, 2/21/24 by Nina Steigele, Director of operations. Their tiles are handmade from sludge from the Paonia Reservoir. All their processes are very environmentally conscious and eco friendly. Here's some pics:

Our Field Trip in January was to Magic Circle Players. These are the kind of great field trips you get to take with us when you become a member (for dues of just $10 per year!) We got to see their new front facade. We also got a look inside & behind the scenes. They have costumes galore, and props & furniture for their sets in the back. They even have a woodshop in order to make their sets. As small as it may look on the outside, there was room for that & more inside. What a great place, that the community comes together in, to bring "the arts," plays & musicals to our community. If you haven't been to their venue, you should go! Their recent productions of "Sound of Music" and "Fiddler on the Roof" were so fun to see and so well done!

A good time was had by all at our annual Christmas party, which was held at The Stone House Restaurant this past Wednesday evening, on 12/6. In December, our Christmas party takes the place of both our monthly meeting and field trip. We also have a yearly tradition of donating a large portion of our collected dues, to a local charity, of the dues we collect from the beginning of our year in September. This year the Food Bank of the Rockies was chosen to donate to. Members added to the donation if they wanted to. We also collected socks for our local food bank. It was nice getting to know each other better. We ended the party by introducing ourselves, where we moved from, and how long we have been here in Montrose. There were 28 in attendance.
