Meet Shelley! Shelley is a familiar face at Fox Run as a client since we opened and a volunteer for the last six months.
She is a proud Colorado native and lifelong animal lover. Growing up as an Air Force kid, she moved only twice—between Colorado Springs and Cheyenne, WY—before settling back in Colorado. Before joining the veterinary world, she worked as a certified dental assistant for six years before stepping away from the field when she became a mom.
Shelley married into the Air Force and spent 23 years traveling the country with her husband, Ian, who served on active duty. Their journey took them from Colorado to California’s central coast, Michigan, Northern Virginia, New Mexico, Florida, and back to Colorado—where they’re thrilled to stay for good. Along the way, they raised two amazing kids: Conner, now at CSU, and Gabbi, at UNC. One of Shelley’s favorite family memories is seeing the space shuttle land in California—not once, but twice!
For the past 20 years, Shelley has been what she calls a “professional volunteer,” dedicating her time and heart to schools, churches, sports teams, and community events. Most recently, she’s loved serving with Night to Shine and cuddling babies in the NICU at Children’s Hospital. She truly has a servant’s heart and brings that same spirit of care and compassion to Fox Run. She started as a volunteer with Fox Run and quickly was brought on as a parttime employee.
A die-hard Broncos fan (she’s been going to games since the age of 2!), Shelley loves watching all football—especially Air Force and Michigan. Her family is incredibly close, and that includes her beloved mini goldendoodles, FinLay and SaDiE, who she proudly calls “the REAL mini goldendoodles of Monument.” She’s also an enthusiastic pet sitter, cookie baker (while Ian brews beer!), crafter, concert-goer, and photographer.
When she’s at Fox Run, Shelley’s favorite moments are spent giving TLC to pets before and after surgery, offering an extra hand to the team, and showering patients with love during treatment. She’s grateful to be part of the Fox Run family and looks forward to continuing to share her warmth and dedication with pets and people alike.
