Little Toby came in for his first big boy haircut today!! His mom and dad made sure that today wasn't the first time he came to see me, so even though the first haircut was scary, he calmed down pretty quickly and he was able to get a full haircut today. A first haircut is rarely perfect. Grooming can be scary for the first time, lots of new sounds and smells, being up on a table, legs lifted, scissors and clippers around the face, and a big blow dryer. It's a lot. And you can't explain that nothing will hurt them. It's very, very, very important to get puppies used to grooming and their first time should be several times before they need a haircut. A groomer should be ready to be extra patient and take extra time. A puppy has to be groomed it's whole life so it's incredibly important that they learn to enjoy the process.
