We are in an amazing period in the world today. The use of dogs for specialty detection work, human assistance, and medical purposes has skyrocketed. There has never been a time in our history where Canis familiaris has been more in tune to the human experience than now. From the primitive beginning...

Hendrix did such a fantastic job on this track! It may look simple, but it went through an open bare field with no vegetation, and it was pretty windy. It required him to slow down and be more detailed, which isn’t always easy for him. Thank you for setting this up !

Hendrix loved getting to explore downtown Charleston and stopping into for some goodies!

It makes me so happy always being able to include him in what I do. His obedience training has gotten put on the back burner with all of his trailing & detection training, but because we’ve laid such a good foundation he’s still reliable ♥️ Obedience is such a pillar in building a mutually trusting relationship!

So many of you deal with this on a regular basis, you’re not alone. I talk about it to all my clients, advocate for your dog! You don’t owe anyone an explanation, it’s YOUR dog. The public isn’t entitled to an interaction with them.

Puppy classes are so much fun 😍

Puppy lessons with Augie the mini Bernadoodle! He did great and so did his humans. Setting puppies and their people up for success with our puppy preschool insures a well rounded confident happy dog by the time they are old enough for our adult obedience program. We can’t wait to see this boy again. 😍

We just wrapped up Sedna’s course with her handler, and she went out with a bang! They got their level 1 and level 2 Field certifications, as well as a level 1 Urban. We set up some really challenging tracks, and they were crushing them.

Sedna was the first puppy I got to test for trailing, help imprint, and be a part of her handlers course. It’s bittersweet saying goodbye, but I can’t wait to see all that she and her handler accomplish! They are going to do amazing things.

Enjoy some before and afters from when she was a baby to now ♥️

That German Shepherd head tilt 😍

It is always such a compliment to have my previous clients trust me with their newest additions. Especially when I’ve moved states away, but we still find a way to make it happen 🥰

Behr is being imprinted on all the scents necessary to get his expert title through AKC! This big boy is only 8 months old, so we’re working on those manners now as well. He’ll be competing in the scent trials, rally (obedience), agility & FCAT through American Kennel Club

I love watching dogs problem solve using self discovery!

Rue failed her track before this one, right at the end in the scent pool. I’ve always had trail layers hide behind something, so she started anticipating that and using her eyes instead of her nose at the end. We set up a quick, short track with the same scent picture (trail layer laying down in an open area), and she nailed it!

Rue has been a rockstar in trailing, she impresses me every day! Don’t underestimate a dogs ability based off of breed. Her breed may not have the predisposition for tracking / trailing, but that doesn’t mean she can’t be great at it. Genetics are important, but they’re not everything. I’ve never seen her happier than when we’re trailing 🐺

Pet dogs also thrive when given a job. Scent work is incredibly fun to learn for you both! We’ve put together two, 5 day trailing workshops in November & December. There are a limited number of spots to keep the class small. These are open to anyone, not exclusively police, SAR, etc. If you’d like more information, reach out and I’ll be happy to give you the details. Trailing has always fascinated me, and I’m so happy to have the opportunity to offer it to you all ♥️

I’m so excited to be working Hendrix back into tracking / trailing! We’re easing into it to make sure we don’t aggravate his injury from last year, but so far so good ♥️ His drive and eagerness to work never cease to amaze me.

He was learning how to navigate a road crossing / surface transition here, independently. Of course he nailed it 😉

HITS K9 Training didn't disappoint! There was a lot of great content, I got to meet several big influences in the working dog community, and made connections with quite a few handler teams. I had fun laying a tricky, urban evasion trail for Christine Davis to showcase Valiant's impressive tracking capabilities. Being here gave me the opportunity to do some chaotic distraction training for Vor (refer to my last picture to see his happy mug!). See you next time in Arizona 🔥

I will be relocating to South Carolina to join the working dog world. As passionate as I am about helping dogs in general, I’ve always wanted to get back into working with working dogs. I have the incredible opportunity to pursue that!
My time here in Tampa Bay will be missed dearly ♥️ A lot of you are not only my clients, but you’ve been like a family to me. I truly love you all and appreciate the amazing support you’ve given me over the last few years!
Just because I’m leaving Florida doesn’t mean you can’t reach out to me. I’d love to hear from you all, even if it’s just an update or pictures! I’m still here if you have any questions moving forward. I have so much love for you Florida fam!

Quick update! For those that don’t know, I’m currently in South Carolina studying tracking/trailing and detection work. I’m having the best time learning with Axel, and watching him progress. Dogs are amazing and never cease to continue amazing me with their capabilities.

I hope all of you can see the heart and soul I put into you and all of your pups. I’m looking forward to bringing these new skill sets to the table!

That’s a wrap for utility class! We had the best time working with this crew. Building confidence in dogs is one of my absolute favorite part of dog training. Utility is such a fun way to do that while giving them something fun and productive to do!

We’ll keep you posted for our next scheduled set of classes. If you have interest in the next class, reach out to or I so we can make sure we give you details before it goes out on social media 😉

I’m looking forward to watching this little baby grow into those big ‘ol paws and ears 😍 Bodhi is going through on and off leash obedience so he can do all the things with his family!

Don’t worry, your dog isn’t going to hate you for giving them rules 😉 Giving structure and boundaries is what creates the opportunity to provide so much more freedom.

Due to unfortunate messaging over the years, coupled with a lack of knowledge, and compounded by the human tendency for denial/delusion, what should be obvious and commonly accepted is anything but.

A few of the messages:
-There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. Wrong.
-Any dog can be “fixed” if you’ll get your energy right. Wrong.
-Every dog should be saved. Wrong.

The knowledge gap:
-We have a chaotic house, with lots of kids running all over, and we adopted a highly nervous but “sweet” herding breed. Bad.
-My dog challenges everyone in our family, and has bitten us all, but is great with my trainer. Bad.
-We got a guarding/working breed so it can protect the family, even though we’ve never had a dog before. Bad.

A bit of denial:
-He only bites us when we kiss/dance/move too fast/leave the house/vacuum because he had a traumatic early life. Delusion.
-She’s guards her spot on the couch, her toys, and her food, and will bite us if we get too close, but it’s only because she never had things of her own before. Delusion.
-He always growls at or bites my husband, but I’m sure he was abused by a man before I adopted him. Delusion.

Can people improve? Absolutely. Can dogs improve? Almost always. Does that mean that all fits can be made healthy and happy, or are wise? Nope. People and dogs come in many flavors, and many of these flavors work wonderfully well together, some work with certain other flavors, and some (human and dog) don’t work well at all. It’s a sad reality, but a reality nonetheless. We should be choosing the dogs we share our lives with based on an honest and informed assessment of who we are, what our lives look like, and what dog—both breed and individual personality—fits that reality best.

Ignore the silly messages, do your homework, and lose the denial.

Fairytales in dog land often end up as nightmares.
