Today was a day of firsts. It’s Seeley’s first trip to MT, his first Sharptail and his first Hungarian Partridge. He’s loving life and I’m loving it right along with him.

We made the trip to Iowa this week to run our Sunny girl in the NAVHDA Invitational. Cheers to the Hawkeye Chapter and NAVHDA International who put on an amazing event!

We came in with confidence and high hopes for Sunny to leave with a VC title, but she fell just short of a Pass in the same event as Kep fell short in last year - backing. I’d be lying if I said that didn’t give me some pause. To have two dogs, two years in a row perform so highly in training but fall short on game day leaves me wondering. But again, it gave me the opportunity to ask questions, observe others, and get advice from a wide variety of trainers and handlers. Some chats around a campfire and an 8 hour drive home with my wife, and we are coming home with a goal and plan. Stay tuned!

Congratulations to my fellow Red River Valley NAVHDA Chapter members who also earned the opportunity to showcase their talented dogs at the big event – Jeff Johnson, Ben Woessner, and Jeff Jalbert. And thanks to John Wickenheiser for coming along to cheer us on.

Extra congrats to Jeff Jalbert and his dog, Ren, who brought home the VC title!

We are grateful that NAVHDA continues to provide us with opportunities to meet so many great people from across the country! We shared many laughs, stories, and maybe a few cold beverages. Til next time 🍻

Our Ms. Laity earned herself a 186 Prize 2 at her NAVHDA Utility Test! She’s independent and lovable and when it comes to upland hunting I’d never leave this dog behind. Simply put, we are so proud of her and so glad she is ours! She needed to overcome a fear we created last year of some unknown person lurking in the shadows for the drag and she did it!! Big thanks to Anthony Dupuis and congrats to him on this title as Laity is out of his kennel and breeding program!

NA Test Part 2: Long post warning!

We had a great weekend at the NAVHDA Natural Ability (NA) Test in Berthold, ND. We got to run the dogs on some beautiful grounds, meet some new friends, spend time with old ones, and watch some amazing dog work! This was the first time my parents had come to watch a NAVHDA test, and these puppies set the bar high!

There are three events in the NA Test: field, track, and water. Across those three events the dogs are judged and scored on their use of nose, how they search for a bird, swimming, pointing the bird, tracking the bird, desire to work, and cooperation. Their scores are added up and they are given Prize 1, 2, 3 or No Prize.

It was a big weekend for Great Divide Kennel running 5 out of the 8 seven-month-old KepxSunny puppies. And all 5 puppies that were tested Prized! Four Prize 1 and one Prize 3!! We are so proud of these puppies and so thankful to their owners for trusting us to train them! It has been an honor.

Big shout out to Central Dakota Navhda as they put on a great event! And big thank you to the judges, who travel from all over the country and give their time to judge these events.

These test weekends are exhausting and energizing all at the same time. Our family truly enjoys the comradery of NAVHDA. These are not competitions, but a judgement of your dog against a standard. We cheer each other on and want each other to succeed. Isn’t that how life should be?!

I’ll post the rest of the scores for the weekend after tomorrow’s test, but I felt this one deserved its own.

When we decided to keep Odin out of our KepxSunny litter, Seeley asked if Odin could be his dog. I told him he could, but he needed to help train him and run him in his Natural Ability (NA) test. When I broke my arm earlier this summer, I needed Seeley to step up and not only train Odin but help train the other 4 NA puppies, 3 UT dogs and help get Sunny ready for the Invitational. Ever since, he has trained with me almost every single day, getting up early and always eager to help.
Today Seeley ran Odin in his NA test and their efforts were rewarded with a perfect 112 Prize 1!
Our hearts couldn’t be more full as we have watched these two grow together and that “just a boy and his puppy” dream have come to life.

Made the trip to Berthold, ND today with these 5 KepxSunny pups to run in the NAVHDA Natural Ability test this weekend. Zoe, Odin, Boone, Roman, and Rip - talented group of 7 month old pups! But they are still pups. We will see what the weekend brings, but no matter what, it’s been a privilege to have a front row seat watching them progress in skill and confidence over the last 6 weeks!

It was a fun weekend for the Moszers and a great weekend for Great Divide Kennel and High Draw Gun Dogs! We had the privilege of training and testing 4 of High Draw’s pups. We ended the weekend with three Prize 1 Braques and one Prize 3. Not only is it a win for the both of us, it’s a win for the breed. It’s so much fun to continue to do our part to show the gun dog world what this breed is capable of!

When your 4 wheeler breaks down and you have to borrow the kids little 90 sportsman to go pick up your launchers.
Took a pic cause I thought it was funny. About 30 seconds later the bungee cord came loose and I ran over the launchers. Not so funny anymore 🤦‍♂️ It’s been one of those days.

Had two special visitors today - Odin got to see his brothers, Roman and Boone! Took the opportunity to put them on some birds in the CRP. Pretty fun to watch these pups work at 3.5 months old.

Here’s Sunny working a draw in MT for sharpies. Why walk that far when your dog can do it for you!!!

Sunny from Unique Gundogs - Braque Francais has been with us for 6 weeks now preparing for her NA test next weekend. She is an absolute sweetheart that now has the heart of a demon in the field. She is pointing reliably, swimming with more and more confidence everyday and as you can see here a tracking machine. This was her 3rd pheasant track and she crushed it. #braquesolid Jeremy Jameson

When the kids at the baseball game just have to play fetch with Kep and all they can’t find is a plastic spoon. Seriously what a good dog!

Getting a dog to swim can take time, patience, and sometimes it takes you (and your kids) getting wet! Every dog is different. After a few weeks working on water intro with this client dog in preparation for her NA test, she is swimming! #braquesolid

Oh yeah knocked the rust off!! I mistakenly only took a pic of Sunny instead of a video so you will have to trust me that she killed it. I’ll prove it to all you neigh sayers next time we go out!

Tried something new yesterday to help teach the this years UT dogs and Kep to be patient. I first ran them in pairs and then decided to try all 4 at the same time. The video is out third try with all of them, not gonna lie they did better than I thought they would. #braquesolid

CRP is finally drying up so we knocked the rust off with some retrieving drills. I think the dogs enjoyed the change in scenery even more than I did.

It’s been a long winter and we were finally able to get the roading gear out!! They absolutely love it and I can’t think of a better, more efficient way to get/keep them in shape.

Another Kep with hand signals video, it’s not edited and polished so you can see that we make mistakes too. Mistakes are the key to solid training as they give us an opportunity to make a correction and teach.
