Preparing Champ for first ride groundwork session #4
The weather is perfect for working outside in the arena. After just a few low pressure sessions Champ has already an understanding for the departure cue, developed control of the shoulder, bend in the rib, and hind quarters, understands direction, understands driving forward, makes a walk to trot transition, disengages his hindquarters, draws in, and even softens to the hand. All while using nothing more than being aware of how I’m applying the pressure with my body. Can you see that increasing the speed to the trot is all the increase he can handle for the time being? Follow our page today as we use natural horsemanship to start Champ under saddle!
Let’s go over some of the tools of the training process
How did your homework go? Before we get out to the arena let’s go over the tools when starting a young horse. You can see in this video how we apply and remove the pressure when training our horses and the impact it has on our horses in the early stages of training.
Starting a horse under saddle!
I’m excited to work this young horse with you as a team! Throughout the process you will see components that are horse may not understand, however remember we are only focusing on the good and what this young horse is offering to us throughout the process and we will help him through the rest. “Progress not perfection” at sellslake.com

Though this young mare will lope small circles we wanted to keep this session at a trot to keep it low pressure as it’s her first experience with this. “Chica Dos” is eligible for a handful of incentive programs and goes live this evening at equineauction.com
Training to us is not just a conversation with the horse but we enjoy the conversation with a couple of other trainers as well! And with last weeks conversation of working equitation we figured we would try this filly out to see how she’s coming along!
