Please read.
Public awareness and understanding of this issue is paramount to retention of employees in our industry.
Currently there is a nationwide shortage of veterinarians. At least 14 applications have been submitted from US Universities for consideration to build new veterinary schools and several are scheduled for construction starting in 2026.
This has occurred as a result of increased pet ownership since the 2020 Covid-19 Epidemic. Almost overnight we had a surplus of animals that needed vet care.
The volume of patients increased exponentially but the number of employees did not. The number of hours in the day did not and neither did the patience of the public who did not understand why they could not be seen that same day without a problem.
This has led to major burn out of veterinarians, veterinary technicians and receptionists who are working overtime to see as many patients as they can each day. It is still not enough most days to make everyone happy and we are hearing it from our vet community all over the country.
So please take a moment to read articles like this one in hopes of understanding how Veterinary Medicine and related fields have been changed forever. We promise your pets are our top priority and we are working to be as efficient as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with being worked-in or having your appt re-scheduled as we navigate these waters.
Special thanks for your kindness towards our reception team who has been challenged to say the least, this past year 🙌 ❤️ 🐾
A pet owner’s worst nightmare is taking their animal to the emergency veterinarian. Unfortunately, Onslow County pet owners have limited options when it comes to emergencies.
