Wonderful Halloween time with @astralk9s @vibrantk9training @natureandnurturek9 @freshstart_k9 among many more friends! Thank you again Alex for hosting! Every dog did amazing and looked even more so!❤️
Absolutely amazing time today training at the Doggy Days of Summer in Morgan Hill with @astralk9s , @vibrantk9training @angelgug @jennxbradley , and more! We had a full pack walking around.
All these dogs had such a long day and did so good, having a ton of fun and braving the crowds!
Awesome group class work recently from everyone! Learning so well how to focus and remain neutral around so many dogs. @dammmnnick , @astralk9s and @nextgenacs thank you for coming out to the Saturday group and having fun with us! Excited to have everyone back as much as possible ❤️
Despite Phoebe looking and doing awesome in her last reel, here's what she's with me for! Her reactivity is genetic, as she's had amazing socialization from day one, but recently she's been more spooked at things, especially outside. Indoors she is a lot calmer, even in a mall setting, but outdoors everything is a lot more spooky.
.
So we're setting up for as much success as possible with small walks with treats galore! And even though she is trained on prong and ecollar, for reactivity, especially since her reactions are so mild and purely emotion based, I use neither here, just her flat collar. If I thought she'd lunge, I may use the prong collar as a safety net, but you can see she's redirected easily so there's no need.
The goal here is to stay calm and have her learn that even when things are spooky to trust the handler and look to them for guidance, instead of taking things into her own hands/paws.
A morning with Phoebe!
This dog is incredibly fun to work with, and it's a blast being able to do some early morning walks! With her slight reactivity, early morning walks are the best for her, where we barely see anyone on our short journey to a small field!
It's because of this early morning that I trust her off leash as well, whereas while she has an ecollar, it would be unfair to set her up for failure by walking her off leash around people and dogs. I do always have a leash on me if we encounter anyone!
Socialize your dogs!
This doesn't mean letting them say hello to every dog or human they meet. This means exposing them to everything and learning to remain neutral and calm. Livestock, dogs of different breeds and excitement levels, environments, people of different complexions with different outfits holding different things, textures, unstable surfaces, and so so so much more! This is just a small, small snippet of just the amount of work that goes into properly socializing a dog. Not to mention scents, surfaces, and more which I'll showcase more in the future.
If you feel like you're struggling with this or don't know where to start, don't be afraid to reach out! Free consultations always that can be scheduled on my website - link in bio!

Come with me, a dog trainer, on a regular neighborhood walk! Here we have Freddy, a kooikerhondje boarding with me, and Meg, my own little amazing mutt.
We start off with a lot of sniffing, sticking by me in general but nothing needed beyond. We practice a little bit of heel, a few down stays, and continue on our way!
This park is excellent for being constantly a quiet place with few distractions so I can trust both these pups a ton. Normally, Freddy isn't allowed off leash, but in this park when it's quiet, I know I can trust him.

A great socialization session with Oreo at the wonderful Victory Martial Arts! This place has kicking, clapping, yelling, running, all that Oreo took like a champ! Taking treats, chewing, and meeting people of all types.
Place foundation with Oreo!
