Plants are a common way for horses to become poisoned.
Toxic plants may be more common in your pasture than you realise.
Always inspect new pastures for toxic plants. Horses are more likely to eat toxic plants when they have little access to nutritious pasture.
Signs of plant poisoning in horses may include:
• Reduced appetite and colic
• Depression or lethargy
• High heart rate or laboured breathing
• Muscle tremors
• Neurological signs including staggering, falling over or blindness
• Skin irritations
What to do if you suspect plant poisoning in your horse:
• Seek immediate veterinary advice – give clear descriptions of clinical signs, videos of animals behaviour are very useful.
• Remove all access to area with poisonous plant present
• Check your feed and hay for mould or contaminating plant material
• Collect samples of the suspect plants or photos

You may wonder why we pull back into the syringe when giving injections in the vein. This picture explains why. We don't pull back to make sure we're in the vessel, we do it to make sure we're in the RIGHT vessel. Today I went to give an injection and pulled back and saw blood brighter than I wanted. I decided to go and get a new dose of sedation and once again pulled back and then gave my dose of sedation. The syringe on the left was my first injection and the syringe on the right was my second injection. Does anyone know why I shouldn't have injected that first syringe? And had I injected that first injection, what would have happened?

Great read!

Not a joke...

Have you ever wondered why you can have a 15 acre field and part of it is chewed down to nubs and the other part has grass a hand high, But your horse is constantly grazing in the chewed down part?

Grass 6 inches and taller has less sugars than grass under 6 inches.

For every inch drop below 6 inches, the fructan (sugar) content rises.

Grass under 6 inches is stressed like it's a Monday morning with a project deadline. It uses sugar to repair itself.

Stop mowing your fields short.

Stop grazing your chubbys on chewed down grass. (this is why grazing muzzles are so touted...they keep the horse from being able to get much short grass)

(We aren't saying let your fields be 3 feet tall, by the way. The optimal thing to do is keep them 6-8 inches tall and graze them in small areas there)

“How much weight can a horse carry?

In my experience, a horse can carry an infinite amount.

They can carry the weight of broken hearts, broken homes, and broken bodies. Countless tears sometimes comb their tangled manes. Moments when parents and friends cannot be there to help and hold a person, horses embrace and empower. They carry physical, mental, and emotional handicaps. They carry hopes and dreams; and they will carry the stress from your day when you can't carry it anymore.

They carry graduations, they carry new careers, they carry moves away from everything familiar, they carry marriages, they carry divorces, they carry funerals, they carry babys before they are born, and sometimes they carry the mothers who cannot carry their own baby. They carry mistakes, they carry joy, they carry the good and they carry the bad. They carry drugs and addictions, but they also carry the celebrations.

They will carry you to success when all you have felt is failure. They will carry you, never knowing the weight of your burdens and triumphs.

If you let them, they will carry you through life, and life is hard, life is heavy. But a horse will make you feel weightless under it all.”

Well said!!

This is a nice meme, absolutely accurate in theory----But it is not realistic.

Many riders know full well that it isn't the horse that's the problem, but instead of taking the responsibility to work on themselves, they either roll out the Excuse Train, or they blame the horse anyway.

Change is hard.

On this Veteran's Day, we honor and remember every man and woman who has ever worn the uniform of our great country. Americans who stepped forward and swore an oath to support and defend our country and our liberties. We thank all who selflessly served and sacrificed. You are not forgotten! 🇺🇸

Trainer - I kept asking you the same question and you gave me the right answer, but I didn’t accept it as right. So you changed your answer, got frustrated and confused. This is exactly how your horse can feel if you miss the release!
