Huge thank you to the NCVMA and NC State for coming to our shelter this weekend and spaying/neutering 27 animals for us and 19 for McDowell County—all at no cost! Your generosity and dedication to animal welfare mean the world to us. 💙

A big shoutout as well to Burke County Emergency Management for bringing our CAST trailer down, giving us a great space to recover the animals, and to the Burke Animal Services Foundation for fueling our hardworking team with some much-needed pizza! 🍕

It truly takes a village, and we are beyond grateful for the amazing partnerships that help us make a difference for these animals. Thank you all! 🐾❤️

🎶 Meet Garth Brooks! 🎶

At about 4 months old, Garth is the perfect mix of sweet and silly—he’s got a little “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)” energy after short play sessions, but don’t worry, he’s always ready for a cuddle session on the couch.

He’s house and crate trained, making him an “Unanswered Prayer” for any family looking for an easygoing pup. Good with dogs, cats, and kids, Garth is all about the “Friends in Low Places” lifestyle—getting along with everyone and bringing joy wherever he goes.

We have been made aware of a cruel scam targeting pet owners in our community. Scammers are impersonating our shelter, calling people and falsely claiming that their lost pet has been found injured. They demand immediate payment to “cover medical costs” or threaten that the pet will be euthanized if the payment isn’t made.

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM! ⚠️ Burke County Animal Services will NEVER demand payment over the phone for you to reclaim your lost pet or for emergency medical care. If your pet is found and brought to us, we will always follow proper procedures and work with you directly in person.

If you receive a suspicious call:
❌ Do NOT give any payment information.
❌ Do NOT share personal details.
✔️ Hang up and call us directly @ 828-764-9588.
✔️ Report the scam to local authorities.

"A goofy goofball who lives for belly rubs and toys! He loves to play with other dogs and loves car rides! He is house trained! He is a very sweet boy and minds well! He does not like cats!! He is available for adoption! He is also up to date on his shots, heartworm negative & neutered! This boy has been through a lot and needs a forever home."
