Feel like Santa is coming to Doc’s Healing Hives Learning Center! Well not Santa , but Matt Willey will bee 🐝 here at the end of the month to do a little filming and discuss the mural he will bee painting inside our learning center. Such an exciting time. We now have to raise funds to pay for this project. I have attached a link to Matt’s newsletter. You can see his beautiful murals that he painted in 2024 and at the very end of the newsletter it links you to our website and an opportunity to donate.

The Value-Added Producer Grant program is now open for application via the USDA Grant Application Portal! Applications close at 4:30 PST on April 17, 2025.

The Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) program helps agricultural producers enter value-added activities to generate new products, create and expand marketing opportunities, and increase producer income.

You may receive priority if you are a:

Beginning farmer or rancher.
Veteran farmer or rancher.
Socially-disadvantaged farmer or rancher.
Small or medium-sized farm and ranch structured as a family farm.
Farmer or rancher cooperative.
Proposing a mid-tier value chain.
Grants are awarded through a national competition.

Agricultural producers (includes harvesters and steering committees), agricultural producer groups, farmer- or rancher-cooperatives, and majority-controlled producer-based business ventures, as defined in the program regulation, are eligible to apply for this program.

A VAPG Self-Assessment survey is available to assist you with determining potential eligibility for the VAPG program. The VAPG Self-Assessment survey is not a requirement to start the VAPG application process, but it is a helpful tool in assisting agricultural producers with determining potential eligibility for the program. All potential applicants are encouraged to complete the short survey.

We are so excited to have taken one more step in the right direction to creating some lodging for the veterans that are participating in Doc’s beekeeping program. knocked out one of the GeoDomes pads yesterday. His attention to detail is outstanding. This space was supposed to be for the 15ft GeoDome, but he made it large enough to place the 27ft GeoDome in it. Next week we will be getting out to finish the farm store and build the 1st deck. Our glamp space will be one of a kind as Ken Bloomberg is designing it to include a bathroom with a shower inside the dome. Right next door will be the wood burning hot tub and outdoor kitchen. 50 feet away will be the garden and Sauna. 75 feet will be the duck pond and trail head.

Yes it will be open to rent probably 40 out of 52 weeks. With only two sites we expect that they will book up fast. Keep watching and we will let you know when you can book your stay!

Hey y’all missed it! The 62nd Annual Wild Hog Supper was last night and it was a blast. I didn’t actually speak, but the point I am making is you should have been there. The event supports Georgia’s Farm to Food Bank program. We sponsored at the Friend Level because we believe in the program and are always working to help others that our food insecure. Please consider donating, supporting, sponsoring or simply attending. We had a chance to invite a whole bunch of folks out to the farm. Commissioner Tyler Harper , Representative Johnny Chastain Johnny Chastain, Representative Emory Dunahoo , and Melissa Blevins the Board President of Feeding Georgia. I simply asked her for more fresh produce for . Please put it on your calendar for next year.

Beautiful day at the farm. We took our time on our 1 mile trail built by Legacy trails and spent about 45 minutes walking and just listening. Lisa is highlighting one of my favorite campsites it is two tiered and sits near the creek. We obviously need to work on our camera skills. The spot I stopped at is one of my favorites highlights the creek and a bunch of American Beech trees. We are super excited tonight open up this spring and share the magic with you!

Last Monday I was awarded The Be The One Award from American Legion Post 248 Commander Jim Callendar.
I was recognized for the work Doc’s does helping Veterans heal, and the other volunteer work I do. It was an honor to receive the award. If you are a veteran and want to connect with other veterans to help our community, please consider joining the American Legion.
