The best gift ever.

Hi everyone, we are unfortunately in need of some help. This is a long post, but unfortunately has been our recent reality.

This past week has been extremely challenging and heartbreaking. Meet Marco and Desi. Marco came to us from a local animal control facility. This little dude had an unknown history, but didn’t deserve the cards that were being dealt at only 10 weeks old. Desi, is the sweet girl who was tossed from a car on a very busy road, that was scooped up by an employee.

Unfortunately, despite immediate veterinary care, and vaccine administration, these kiddos broke with the dreaded Canine Parvovirus, also known as Parvo.

This highly contagious virus attacks white blood cells and the gastrointestinal tract of dogs, and has a relatively high fatality rate. All dogs are susceptible to canine parvovirus, although some dogs are at greater risk than others. These include puppies between 6 and 20 weeks of age, unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated dogs, and certain breeds.

Parvo is easily spread by direct contact with infected dogs, contact with f***s from infected dogs, or contact with virus-contaminated surfaces. Surfaces like kennels, food and water bowls, collars and leashes, and the hands and clothing of people who handle infected dogs.

Marco initially presented with diarrhea, lethargy, and loss of appetite. A quick check of his temperature, and snap test confirmed our suspicions. And off to the emergency clinic we went. Marco was hospitalized and received aggressive veterinary treatment. Marco has spent this past week recovering, and is finally feeling like a puppy again. We are relieved, and confident that he is on the mend.

The very next day, Desi presented with no appetite, lethargy, and vomiting. Once again, a quick check of her temperature, and a snap test confirmed our fear. And back to the vet we went. Desi was hospitalized, and also received aggressive veterinary care. We transported Desi to and from the emergency clinic and our normal veterinary clinic, all week. She received constant care, and every medication needed by some of the very best veterinarians. Unfortunately, despite the very best efforts, Desi’s body couldn’t bounce back, and she succumbed to the virus.

We are devastated, but know that we did everything possible trying to prevent this outcome. We are currently closed for intake and adoptions, until we are sure that everyone is no longer at risk of getting sick. We are spending our time disinfecting and cleaning. These sweet pups never crossed paths, but unfortunately both had to fight this horrible virus. We are hopeful that we have stopped the spread, and are taking all precautions to keep everyone healthy.

Please let this be a reminder to vaccinate your pets. This could have been prevented with proper administration of vaccines.

As you can imagine this treatment and care is expensive. And with 2 sick dogs, we have double the bills. We anticipate our bills to be well over $3,000. If you can, and would like to donate to help us pay down these expenses, we would be forever thankful. If you can’t donate, please share.

Introducing Ashton 💖

Ashton is a 10-12 month old petite little lady. Shes a quiet girl who loves attention. She loves head scratches and all of the love she can get! She enjoys her treats and toys, but isn’t one to turn down cuddle time. Ashton is selective with other cats, so a docile cat may be a good match for her, or she would be perfectly fine as the only cat in the home. Shes a very sweet girl who deserves a great forever home!

Ashton is spayed, up to date on core vaccinations, has been dewormed, is combo negative, and has been given monthly flea and tick preventative.

Introducing Chanel 💁🏻‍♀️

Chanel is a 2-3 year old gorgeous lady! Shes a sassy girl with a booming personality. She’s vocal, chatty, and loves flipping and rolling around for attention. She LOVES people, and getting head scratches. Miss girl loves her treats, and toys. She is not a fan of other cats. She prefers to be the queen of her castle. Chanel will make a great cuddle buddy, and will happily keep her new family company.

We recently kicked off our capital campaign fundraising efforts for our new facility. We are blessed to have such an outpouring of support from our community! Not only will the new facility be a dream come true, but it is greatly needed to serve our community. The new shelter will provide refuge for our furry friends, who need us the most. Updated amenities will allow us to provide more enrichment, training, care, and love to animals in our care.

Today we would like to introduce another business, and give a big shoutout to Hillcrest Veterinary Clinic. They kicked off our campaign with a $25,000.00 donation towards the new facility!

Not only are they passionate about animal care, these wonderful folks are huge advocates of animal rescue. Many staff members have adopted from our organization, as well as other local organizations. Their commitment to providing the best care possible for our furry pals is unmatched. We are very thankful for all of our friends at Hillcrest, and feel extremely lucky to have them on our team!

Nemo here is still searching for his forever home, and a comfy lap to call his own!

Lionel is a 6-7 month old hound mix. He grew up with us and was returned in August, due to no fault of his own. This handsome guy is as sweet as they come. He loves attention, snuggling, and being around his people. He LOVES other dogs, and doesn’t mind cats. Lionel is a large puppy, and gets overly excited around small kids, and may knock them down. Introducing the Powerpuff girls! 💖🥰

These 9-10 week old pit mix babies belong to Mama Bridgett! They are adventurous, curious, playful, and full of personality. These little ladies are full of energy, and will need an active home to suit their needs. They love attention, treats, food, toys, and shoes! They’re ornery little puppies who are going to provide their new family with endless entertainment. They love other dogs, are curious of kitties, and love all of the humans!

Introducing Mama Bridgett 💖

Bridgett is a 1-2 year old Pit mix. This girl is full of personality! Now that the puppies are weaned, she’s enjoying her freedom, and is learning to be a dog again. She loves treats, and toys. She gets so excited to go on walks, and does well on car rides. Shes kennel trained, and is working on her potty training. This girl has a ton of energy, so an active home that will provide her with an outlet to burn off some zoomies will suit her best. She LOVES people, and gets a wild case of the wiggles every time someone greets her.

Bridgett will need to be in a home as the only pet. She does not like sharing her space with other animals. She will need some training and patience as she adjusts to her new home, but we would be more than happy to recommend local trainers to assist with her transition.

She will be available to go home once spayed. She is being brought current on core vaccinations, has been dewormed, microchipped, is 4DX negative, and has been given monthly flea and tick preventative.
