What to do if you encounter a rattlesnake
Jun 8, 2021 — Remain calm and do not panic. Stay at least 5 feet from the snake. Make sure to give it plenty of space.
Rattlesnakes will try to slither away, or warn you that they are there, or strike as a last resort if they are threatened or cornered or about to be stepped on. Rattlesnakes are slow movers but fast strikers. If the snake is pi**ed off enough to try and bite you, it would strike faster than you could run.
Stories of snakes chasing people are driven from fear or hatred. For example, if you encounter a snake while out in direct sunlight and you stop and stay still for some time, the snake may begin to lose track of you and begin to think you're a rock or tree casting a nice, cool shadow.
