I’ve got to thank my puppy raising “helper” 😆
This litter should be particularly desensitized to screaming, pen shaking, loud banging and objects being randomly thrown on the floor

Adventures in new places! The pups will turn 6 weeks old tomorrow, and are starting to go on some small trips to expand their world. They thought this new place was a lot of fun 🤩
Some Friday puppy spam 💕
The Loot x Essay litter is 5 weeks old today- now the real fun starts!
Puppies got a pen upgrade this morning! Out of the whelping box, into the big puppy pen.
3.5 weeks old and these guys are all about the food!
For some litters, the first meal is a learning experience. Then there are litters like this, that know exactly what to do 🤤
Thanks to everyone who came out to help socialize the Peaks 🏔️ yesterday!
This litter is part of the Domestic Breeding Initiative, and will be with us for the next year as they prepare for professional detection careers. They need to get used to big groups of people & social settings, and yesterday provided a great introduction to that!
And besides the important socialization value…what’s more fun than a puppy party on a rainy Saturday afternoon?
The gang’s all here!
Our HRCH UHCH Loot MH BN RN SWN x Essay TD RN SWE litter was born yesterday afternoon, and we ended up with 4 black males, 3 yellow males, and 1 yellow female. Essay is being an excellent momma and we couldn’t have asked for a smoother whelp.
Because of the sex breakdown, it looks like we will have a couple boys available to competitive performance or SAR homes.
Life’s about to get a whole lot busier for the little mountain climbers! The Bugs x Kenna litter turned 2 weeks old a couple days ago, and they are ready to get busy!
Morning puppy ASMR
🔈 Sound on for all the good puppy grunts & twitches
Working dogs are so funny…
I had to abandon a track I had laid out the other night, life just got busy and we didn’t have time to run it.
So the next day, 18 hours after the track was put out, I take all my crew out for a hike. I planned my route so that we would end up intersecting the old track on the way back, and I could retrieve my end article.
As we get close to the track, Wicked starts throwing nose hooks and I see she’s running the track exactly where I laid it. She worked out the turn, and stuck very close to the track despite the wind and age, all on her own. She got to the article (which was covered in coyote pee from the night before) and was quite pleased with herself.
There’s nothing more fun than watching these dogs work, and there’s nothing they love more. There was no context cues to work- no harness, no rewards, no cues- just a dog who found a track on her own while we were out on a dog walk and was excited to work it out.

Learning how to overcome stressful situations can start early! The little drop out of the whelping box doesn’t seem like much, but for these three week old puppies that still have poor depth perception, it seems like a big drop!
I could have totally just picked them up out of the box, but instead I let natural curiosity and determination take its course, and all three of the pups worked it out on their own. They got to learn that they can push through stress to accomplish a task- a very valuable lesson.
