Did you know Sniffing a hand is NOT permission? An outstretched hand does not mean they want patted. An outstretched hand can be threatening.
Bites can happen when putting an outstretched hand near a dogs face. Keep your hands at your side. If they come to your hand to sniff or lick, that is still not permission to pat. You have to read the body language of the whole dog and listen to the owner who knows their dog best.

I am a pet dog trainer. I have worked with numerous breeds. I am here to help you grow your relationship with your dog. You need a good relationship with your dog to get your dog to listen to you. Whether it’s to fix behaviors in the house such as barking, jumping, counter surfing, etc. to teaching your dog to recall, stay when you ask them to, walk nice on a leash, etc. I love helping scared dogs. There seems to be many of those these days. My heart and soul goes into the herding breeds that are so misunderstood. I myself have had a dog with numerous behavioral issues, including anxiety/fear and very strong/aggressive reactions towards other dogs, so I also have experience in that. I currently have two dogs of my own. A seven year-old corgi and a six month old lab. My main goal is to help people enjoy life with their dogs instead of living in a stressed household. Dogs are keenly aware if you're full of crap or not.
Do your corrections match your affection? Are you believable?
Do you follow through?

You can use all sorts of words, terms, and phrases, but ultimately, what matters is if you are confident in your ability to lead them.

Dogs can size you up in 10 seconds and know exactly who you are and what you're about. A good trainer can point out your strengths and what you need to work on. It's not all soft cuddles. The dicipline, the tough love, and the boundaries matter.

Talk is cheap. You have to be clear about what you're asking of them and mean it. Not with words but with how you're living with them on a daily basis.

Beautiful boy did training with me 2 years ago and I haven’t seen him since till this week. He’s very people shy and I didn’t think he would willingly approach me but…..he did in record time and wanted the same rub down I used to give him. Melted my heart ❤️
His mom said he normally sleeps in the other room when people come over but he layed right here next to me while I was there 🥰

Do you really need more analogies for this?

Today, more than ever, some of the biggest struggles people have with their dogs comes from the fact they have ZERO CLUE what dogs are or the fact that much of what they do is a result of WHO they are.

For example, terriers have personalities that suit their historic purpose...

Chasing, fighting, and killing nasty things.

That requires one helluva personality and set of traits.

People get them then are befuddled when the dog exhibits those traits.

That says they have NO CLUE what their dog is.

So then why did they get THAT dog?

Wrapped up in the answer to that question is also why the situation is headed in a very bad direction.

Dogs that for centuries were bred to behave in very specific ways to do very specific things, are brought into homes that never do or want to do those things.

Colt is doing so well with his recall outside with small distractions. He is dragging a long lead so I still have a way to help him if he forgets. Chloe enjoys her freedom as well! Get outside with your dog! No excuses!

Your walks shouldn’t always be structured. Your dog is allowed to be a dog as long as they aren’t dragging you. More often than not, my dogs are free to be dogs. They learn heal for safety purposes.

Rewarding your dog when he checks in on his own helps keep engagement in the future

Actually he’s only 15 weeks and has never done these consecutively outside of our normal training area.

This is the hard emotional stuff that we as humans have a hard time sticking to. I was gone this morning so he was with someone else playing all morning. We attempted training when I got home but he was too over tired to focus. He wants to lay on my lap and sleep but he needs his calm space when he’s this tired. He still has a hard time self regulating and if we don’t teach him now, he will never get it. Would it be easier in the moment to let him out? Absolutely! But that doesn’t help us in the long run! Stay strong! It’s worth it!

Bear with me as I am not good at recording, explaining, and keeping an eye on where he is on the leash. I normally call him another direction before he gets to the end. Thankful for the warmer day today to get out and explore and teach Colt some boundaries. Puppies need boundaries! Don’t let your pup learn they can run from you when you call.

We start day one with making puppies wait for their food. This is a routine habit for behavior in order to get your food that’s left for the day after training sessions.

I can’t express enough- If you want a dog that’s in tune with the and listening, let them have a job that plays into their natural instincts. Riley has many jobs but this job is right up her alley. She will herd this ball back to me every time.

So many people can’t touch their dogs paws. When they’re puppies I play with them, usually when they’re tired as you can tell Colt is here. If you do it enough, it just becomes a normal place you touch due to desensitizing them 🥰
