Please reach out for help if your dog is Resource Guarding. The "old school" concepts of "showing them who's the boss" can be counter-productive and dangerous.

Resource guarding is a dog's instinct to protect valuable items like food, toys, or space, often leading to aggressive behaviors such as barking, biting, growling, and lunging. 🐾

Signs to watch for:
Stiffening over an item
Hard stare
"Whale eye" (whites of their eyes showing)
Lip lifting
Low growl
Baring teeth
Snapping
Resource guarding can be caused by fear, anxiety, frustration, territoriality, or early experiences with valuable items and other dogs.

How to manage it:
Provide enough high-quality food, toys, and a comfy space.
Use positive reinforcement—teach your dog to trade items for treats.
Be patient and consistent with training.

With the right approach, your dog can learn to feel safe and secure around their resources! 🐶For all things behavior modification Eleventh Hour relies on the expertise of The Well Behaved Dog by Paul Barish, Cbcc-Ka https://buff.ly/40P6EyR

If your dog displays any aggression, muzzle conditioning is highly recommended. Aside from the obvious, it should lower your stress and as a result, your dogs. Then, you can better work on modifying the behavior. Only use a basket muzzle. Video on my website.

Please supervise children when with their dogs. Some things may look cute, but good way to get the child bitten - especially in the face.

Don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask your visitors to help with training. If they are your friends, they should understand. Your dog is only a puppy once and it's much easier to prevent undesirable behaviors than to undo bad habits.

A little humor and some truth. Your Timing and Tone are crucial with behavioral work. Most pet owners are late to give feedback and don't use the proper tone. One of my sayings is There is No Anger in Dog Training! www.thewellbehaveddog.com

Please keep children's faces away from a dog's face. Especially, if you are as stupid as the owners in this picture! Hard to comprehend what these owners are thinking!

It’s Freddy Friday!!

Meet Fabulous Freddy Paterson needs a Forever home! Freddy is a senior pit mix who has the cutest underbite you’ll ever see. He was rescued by Eleventh Hour from an abandoned basement at 6 months old. Then, Freddy went into a home for about 3 years. Unfortunately, his owner became too ill to care for him and he was brought back to the shelter - he hasn’t had another home since. 😢 He is now 10 years old and we would love for him to spend his twilight years in a home.

Freddy is just an incredibly sweet, fun and loyal guy! He absolutely LOVES car ride adventures and squeaky toys. But, his ultimate favorite thing to do is snuggle as close as he possibly can! Freddy takes just a little time to warm up to new people but once he does, snuggles and kisses will be available every day! He would do best in a quiet home with just a couple or a single person (no kids) who is willing to put him away when they have visitors - Freddy becomes protective of his person/people. He would prefer to be the only pet so he can get all the attention, which he deserves. Freddy is housebroken and doesn’t make a peep in the house unless he hears someone outside. He is the true definition of mans best friend and will make you feel so loved and happy.

For more info on Freddy: https://www.ehrdogs.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=5365288

Freddy is located in Morris County, NJ!
