Starting today through end of day Sunday, all adoption fees are waived. Studies have repeatedly shown that interacting with animals can lower stress and reduce loneliness by offering comfort and support.

Every human deserves the feeling of having someone there for you through grief, through seasonal depression, or while searching for purpose.

Every adoptable animal is eligible for a waived adoption now through Sunday. Visit our Dog Adoption Center during open hours, or browse our adoptable pets online to see a dog, cat, rabbit, or guinea pig in a foster home.

Take care of yourselves, and maybe someone else too.

Sincerely,

The One Tail at a Time Family

Thinking about bringing a bunny (or another bunny) into your family? Adopting is the best option- in addition to saving a life (that makes you an absolute super hero!), you get a rabbit that has already been spayed/neutered, medically checked out, and a ton of ongoing support! A win for everyone!

Not to be a complainer but what gives? I hope one day people contact us when they want to adopt instead of just when they don’t want their rabbits anymore. We’re an ethical rescue. All of our rabbits are neutered, vaccinated, parasite tested/treated and socialized by foster people before adoption. Nobody is ever kept in a cage. Adopting from us includes pretty much 24/7 support if there is ever an issue, whether it’s behavioral, medical, etc. We stay up to date on all the latest developments in rabbit medicine and welfare. We can bond your bunnies for you. I think it’s a pretty sweet deal personally.

*The one application we received last month did not result in an adoption because the people changed their mind about wanting another bunny after we did the meet*

Meet Elliot, our Shelter Pet of the Week!

He is an oversized bundle of love looking for his fur-ever home! He is on a vet recommended diet, so he’s searching for a family who will keep him on track with healthy portions and encourage light exercise. He loves to perch on high spots like a mountain lion and is fascinated by bubbles!

Elliot is in a foster home and is available for adoption through Treehouse Humane Society.

RABBIT OWNERS: At this time we will recommend the RHD vaccine every 6 months. As more studies are done, this recommendation may change. For Boarding rabbits, we will require the RHD vaccine very 6 months.

Amendment to Our Recent Post on RHD Vaccination Recommendations πŸ°πŸ’‰

We’d like to provide clarification on our recent post regarding the US Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD) vaccine by Medgene.

In our original post, we mentioned that Medgene updated the label to recommend vaccination every 6 months. This statement is not entirely accurate and has caused some confusion among veterinarians and rabbit owners. Here's what you need to know:
- Medgene’s label: The current label does not require a booster every 6 months. Instead, the label states that the vaccine has been shown to be effective for at least 6 months based on data from a duration of immunity (DOI) study.
- Booster schedule: Veterinarians are encouraged to use both Medgene's efficacy data and additional data, such as the serology response study conducted by Colorado State University, to make informed decisions about when to booster the vaccine. This study suggests that immunity lasts beyond 6 months, with sufficient levels seen up to a year post-vaccination.
- Clarification on label: There has not been an official label change on the vaccine. The label does not currently specify when booster vaccinations must occur after the initial series (two vaccines, 21 days apart), allowing veterinarians to use their discretion.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused and recommend rabbit owners consult with their veterinarians to determine the most appropriate vaccination schedule for their pets. πŸ‡

You can read more about the serology study here: https://doi.org/10.3390/v16040538

Thank you for your understanding!

Meet Harley, our Shelter Pet of the Week!
He is a 9 year old mixed breed pup at Heartland Animal Shelter. Harley first came to Heartland in 2020 and immediately went to a foster home. Harley would be a great companion for someone who works outside of the home, since he can free roam for a full workday and would never have an accident or misbehave. He has been said to have an "iron bladder"! Harley may be a senior, but he loves the outdoors! He would be a great walking companion, or companion for someone who likes to sit outside or to garden, as he is most content to hang out in a sunny patch of yard. He also likes calm interactions best.

Harley is currently in a foster home and available for adoption through Heartland Animal Shelter.

Meet Alanine, our Shelter Pet of the Week!

Alanine is an 8 year old snuggly feline available for adoption at Paws and Claws! Alanine lives for cuddles, playtimes, and all things ribbon and string. She is the ultimate social butterfly and loves being around humans 24/7. You will always find her following her humans around, if not sleeping on them. When they’re not around, she enjoys relaxing by the window and watching the outside world (Alanine finds it entertaining).

Alanine is currently with her foster family but is available for adoption through Paws and Claws Cat Rescue.

This coming Saturday we will be hosting Super Adoption Saturday with 17 other rescues and shelters in the area. Close to 500 animals will be in attendance, including dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs, and even parakeets. Each one will be hoping that it's their day to find a family.

All our adoptions our special, but it's been a tough year for adoptions. We have so many wonderful, friendly, healthy animals and so many quirky, hilarious, diamonds in the rough, that wait and wait and wait.

So for the next 36 hours we will hold our breath. We will cross our fingers and all the paws we can get our hands on. Because 500 new families would be a dream come true.

Pictured: Rambo, who will be one of the 500 waiting and hoping.
