Minute with Miele – 2 years old

Pardon the pun, but it has been a minute since I did a ‘Miele update’. Two years old makes you think of a dog that is beginning to become an adult, getting closer to maturity, settling down, etc. I will describe some of her recent antics and you can decide for yourself. Pictures of these events are not available, thank goodness!

This wonderful, amazing girl is mischievous as all get out! Laughs are abundant and there is never a dull moment! One of her newfound favorite activities is dropping her fuzzy squeaky toys and chew toys in the bathtub – while I am in the tub taking a bath. I am expecting her to join me any day now. If you are thinking that I should just close the door, well, she can open the door. By the way, it is amazing how much water a large fuzzy toy can absorb!
Last Monday, I got up early. Everyone else was still asleep, or so I thought. Just as I assume the usual morning position in the water closet, I hear large feet rapidly coming my way. Did I mention that she can open doors? Having slept in the same room all night long, it is hard to believe that she missed me this much! She flings her feet onto my shoulders (all 80 pounds of her) and proceeds to give me morning kisses – all over my face, hair, and glasses! This is not a large room. It is 5:00 am, I am trapped, I can’t see, and I have a huge case of giggles. The more I laughed, the more fun she thought it was! It took a little while to extricate myself from this situation.

This weekend, I used Miele to demo the two-ball game as an example for a student. Miele has a lot of ball drive. She had already worked for the better part of an hour, so I assumed that this would not be as stimulating as usual. This is one of her favorite games, but we don’t play it all the time. She was doing very well. Then one ball was knocked underneath and through the ring gates at the front of the building. The (heavy) grooming table, my phone, Rally signs and holders, a container of cheese, my large glass of water, a stool, a metal folding chair, and all the ring gates went flying/crashing down as she ran right through them. She took it as a personal challenge to retrieve that ball out of complete chaos! Which she did. She came flying back with the ball in her mouth and was quite proud that all of that ‘stuff’ had not interfered with her ultimate goal. Oh, and if you see a broken ring gate by the garbage can, let’s just not mention it.

Aside from the silliness above that keeps life interesting, Miele is a very easy dog to live with at home. She is an excellent cuddler and has a great instinct for knowing if one of us isn’t feeling well. She loves Banjo and Charlie (the senior littles) and annoys them with kisses on a regular basis. She never barks at the neighbor’s dogs or at people walking. She is truly a special girl! I always think that each dog is the best one ever. I don’t know how I could be so lucky to have so many ‘heart’ dogs through the years. Maybe your heart just expands to make room for the next one. Love you Miele!

Drumroll please! It is time for our 'surprise' announcement!

Training on the Square is pleased to be able to host Summer Classes (Novice, Open, and Utility) with Matthew Twitty. The classes will be held the mornings of 5/28, 6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, and 7/9. The classes will be followed by an afternoon of private lessons. If you are unable to attend class, you are still welcome to schedule private lessons. Class size is limited. There are no auditing spots. Class fee is $175 and private lessons are $60 per half hour.
