When I think about kids and young adults in the foster care system, what always comes to mind is how lonely it must feel to not have the village that a family often creates. I know that a village doesn’t have to be made up of family members, but when I think back on the hardest times in my own life, it’s my family who stepped in — whether it was a phone call for advice, financial help, a grocery drop-off, or simply showing up with a hug.
While I can’t be all those things to the three individuals we’re sponsoring this holiday season, I can at least offer a little joy and comfort — a reminder that someone out there cares about them, even if that someone is a stranger.
Whenever I look through the Worthdays lists of children and young adults in need of sponsors, I always find myself connecting on some deep, unexpected level with the ones I choose. I’ll always hold those previous connections close to my heart, but this time, I was especially drawn to these two young adults who are both working incredibly hard to build a better future than the one they were handed. One is in college and working at a daycare; the other is working two jobs while caring for his infant son.
Let’s show up for them. Let’s remind them that they matter, that they are worthy, and that even people they’ve never met care about them. Their lists include some big-ticket items (each is hoping for an iPad), so if you’d like to contribute toward those, you can send a Venmo donation to with “Worthdays” in the memo.
Thank you so much for helping us make a difference in their lives 🩷🩷🩷
