It’s weaning time and the mamas could care less! They are enjoying their free time away from kids meanwhile Nova is fine being an independent adolescent or so she thinks. Jagger and Remy think they might be dying 🤣🤣. Cute picture of Jagger checking on Remy to make sure she was ok today. (She was just doing her normal sunbathing). Everyone is actually doing really well. No crying and Anastasia is loving her new babysitting job 😆! Weaning based on the Farmers Almanac was a success!!

This is a sad but true reality. Nova was born here on property after we had rescued her mom and was able to get her healthy before she foaled. Cosmic was born to a very unhealthy underweight mama and was sent through auction after auction and ended up in a kill pen when she was just weeks old. Nova in this picture is 3 months. Cosmic is over 6 months. Nova towers over Cosmic and has so much more muscle tone etc. Their mothers are the same height. Such a sad start to life for Cosmic but she’s healthy now with us and doing well.

We tried something new this year with our community outreach programs. This year we leased our horses out to children who wanted to participate in 4H. We are excited to share that Rayna and Madi won Champion in Showmanship! Madi and Gavin also got Herdmanship for keeping her stall clean all week at fair and Rayna was in the Grand Parade at the rodeo! She loved it all week being pampered and she even found a new boyfriend Royal who was in the stall next to her (they are planning some dates 🤣). For a horse that’s 29 she was acting like she was 10! Thanks to Madi and Gavin for taking such good care of her and we hope to see more participate next year in this amazing organization! Thanks Shandi Kepley for all your help!

It’s with a broken heart that I have to deliver the news that Drako crossed the rainbow bridge today. I know his life in heaven is full of zoomies and lovings. He was a true fighter and had my heart. He unfortunately was the consequence of a poor breeding practice, selling at an auction to an extremely underweight pregnant mama and who ended up in a kill pen. Someone once told me I can’t save them all and I understand that but dang if I don’t try. If you would like to help other horses like Drako get a better start at life please contact me. May his short life not be in vain.

Please keep Drako in your prayers. The vet called and said he took a turn for the worse. His blood sugar was low and his temperature was low. He was not standing a lot and had a lot of diarrhea. They were still working on him and he is a fighter. They think he just may not have such a great immune system etc because he probably didn’t get the colostrum he needed when he born. This is why it’s so crucial foals do not go to kill pens or born in kill pens. He is such a special guy. He definitely has a piece of my heart ❤️

Drako Update
Drako is staying at the vets this weekend. He became very lethargic last night. He just loves trailer rides even though he goes to the vet multiple times a week 🤪! He was excited to get to the vet. He was not excited to be hooked to a bag of fluids on his IV and had to stay still. The vet has monitored him today and his poor gut is all out of whack. He is being weaned from mom because she’s just not producing enough milk and she is just too young to have good motherly instincts and seems to be hurting him more than helping him. He is on some meds and electrolytes to try to balance out his bowel movements to get him a solid one. He will stay there through the weekend so please keep him in your prayers!! This boy is going to be our little miracle baby if he pulls through all of this!

Drako Update

06/13/2023

Drako had a good report today and did not have to go to Tulsa. He is staying on the meds he is currently on through his IV through Wednesday and then his IV can be removed. His surgery has been rescheduled for June 26th. His knee swelling has went down and his numbers are soo much better!! I’m so happy this little guy is such a fighter and has such an amazing support system behind him! He loaded himself today in the trailer all by himself and unloaded all by himself! He’s such a smart boy! He loads better than the adult horses 😂! I’ll get a video up tomorrow!

Drako spiked a high fever Friday evening but it came down Saturday morning and he has not ran a fever since. He has been having antibiotics and Bantamine through his IV. He is putting weight on his leg and is eating good. Prayers for a good report tomorrow during his CBC check etc. This little guy is such a fighter!!

Drako was scheduled for surgery today but unfortunately he did something to his knee last night and is running a temperature now. His white blood cell count is high and they are worried about him possibly getting a septic joint. His surgery was postponed and he has an IV and is on multiple medications over the weekend to see if we can see progress by Monday. If we don’t we have a specialist we can take him to but it does cost several thousand dollars. I refuse to give up on this sweet baby. He has not been dealt the best cards in life but I will not give up fighting for him. Please look deep down in your hearts to help Drako. He is the sweetest boy and deserves everything we can give him. We are so happy to see that prayers work and all our volunteers are now healthy and out of the hospital now! Thanks for all the prayers! Drako’s surgery is Friday so please keep him in your prayers! We will be taking donations for his surgery up until Thursday night at 8 pm CST and we will draw for a winner of those that have supported him through donations or donut fundraiser after Thursday. Drako Update:

Drako is doing well. He’s taking his bottle to supplement the milk he needs and his energy is back. He is scheduled for surgery on June 9th. He was born with a hernia where the umbilical cord was attached. There is an opening about 3 fingers big that has to be closed. I’m sure it didn’t help that mama was so malnourished when he was born. Keep him in your prayers and we will be doing a fundraiser for him to help out with surgery expenses.

Drako Update 2

Yesterday Drako was started on some antibiotics and Bute. He does have an infection also and we aren’t sure if he had it coming out of the kill pen or where he got it. Kill pens are no place for foals! They are filled with disease and germs. Shame on whoever put him there. It’s easy for foals to get infections where the umbilical cord was attached. We are trying to make sure it doesn’t go to his joints. He is still on electrolytes and replacement milk to supplement milk. He seems to have some more energy and goes into the vet tomorrow for a full check up. Please keep him in your prayers for a quick and full recovery!

Drako Update:

He is drinking better today and is pepping up. We hope we have caught it in time so he doesn’t have to stay at the vets. Momma is eating and drinking more so we are hoping she starts producing more. We added some more supplements to her feed to hopefully help her along. Drako is such an amazing foal. He doesn’t fight and loves people. We have done electrolytes and replacement milk today. Tomorrow possibly a shot. His little tail is wagging again! I just love him so much! He likes a lamb bottle better he’s just sooo small! 🥰

Please keep little Drako in your prayers. He and his momma were rescued from a kill pen several weeks ago. We aren’t sure exactly how old he is but he is very small and momma is extremely skinny. Momma is having a hard time producing milk so we are supplementing milk for him as he was getting dehydrated and not getting all the nutrients he needed. If you would like to donate to help little Drako with his vet bills to get stronger and grow you can use any of the methods below. He is such a good boy and loves to give kisses. He deserves such a better life than what he was born into and we will do everything in our power to give that to him!
