P.A.W. Veterinary Clinic will only be open for prescription picks ups and technician appointments May 15-May 29, 2024 . Dr. Wormell will be out of the office and unable to see appointments. A receptionist will be available to schedule future doctor appointments or provide recommendations for an emergency or urgent care facility if needed. There will be limited technician appointments available.

Please expect longer than normal refill times during this time frame- so make sure to check your stock of any prescription medications your pets' receive and request refills prior to the week of May 13th.

Please note, if your pet takes a medication that is a controlled substance, please check your supply and let us know if you will need any refills before May 13th as these medications must be picked up before we close on May 14th.

If your pet has an emergency, please contact an emergency hospital of your choosing.

Is it ok to board by dog right now?
Unfortunately there is no clear yes or no answer we can give to whether or not you should board your dog during a potential outbreak of this unknown respiratory illness. A lot of factors come into play- including your pet’s vaccination status, age, and most importantly his or her overall health. You also have to consider the importance of your reasoning behind needing to board your pet. While COVID is not the cause of this illness that we are seeing in dogs currently, it is affecting dogs in much the same way that COVID did people. The illness causes coughing and flu like symptoms in most healthy dogs, however, the trend seems to be that older and immune compromised pets are hit the hardest and have the most risk for complications such as developing pneumonia which can result in death. At this time, we are advising clients to err on the side of caution, however, if you do choose to board your dog- make sure they are current on all vaccinations- including bordetella (kennel cough), parainfluenza (usually included in the canine distemper/dapp vaccine), and canine influenza (H3N8 and H3N2 strains). We also highly recommend you reach out to your boarding kennel to discuss what they are doing to prevent and limit the spread of the illness in their facility.
