It’s Farrier Appreciation Week and we have to shout out the amazing Sean Losee for his tireless work and support of our four legged friends at New Sunsets! 🔥🧲

Sean has always been one of our biggest supporters and is an invaluable member of our team, keeping our horses balanced and comfortable. As the saying goes, “no hoof, no horse” and we are so lucky to have a farrier who has always gone above and beyond to make sure our horses are well taken care of.

THANK YOU Sean, from all of us at New Sunsets! We genuinely could not do it without you. ❤️❤️

Welcome to the new girl on the aisle - Tilly! 🥳

NSE is so excited to welcome Tilly to our program! Tilly is a 6 year old quarter horse mare on loan from the Snyder family. Her talented momma Stormy has been such a great addition to the barn, and we are sure her daughter will follow in her hoof prints 🐴 Tilly is a retired reiner and looking forward to trying out the therapeutic life ♥️

Unicorn Vibes for Spirit and our Pony Pals crew today! 🦄

Some of our younger riders got together for painting, bathing ponies and fun around the farm! Our Pony Pals program is fun for all ages and ability levels, focusing on ground based horsemanship skills. Students are grouped based on age, with sessions focused on building confidence and knowledge in a relaxed environment with our farm animals.

Day 2 celebrating our one year anniversary of the New Sunsets lesson program and we wanted to highlight one of the backbones of an adaptive lesson program - our volunteers! 🎉

We have been blessed this past year to have so many wonderful volunteers willing to devote their time and experience to help keep our program running safely and efficiently. Whether it’s assisting in lessons as leaders and side walkers, getting horses groomed and tacked, or pitching in with farm chores, our volunteers do it all and we are so lucky to have them!

All the partners at New Sunsets want to give a sincere THANK YOU to anyone who has volunteered their time with us during our 2023 season. Every contribution of time is valuable and we don’t take it for granted. Thank you for helping us with our mission to create a safe, healthy place for horses and horse lovers of all kinds to learn and grow.

We can’t wait to see what our 2024 season has in store for us 🐴

Special shout out to Jennifer, Nancy and Bill for braving the cold last night to assist in lessons and prepping the horses and barn for the next winter storm ☔️💪 Horse life in the winter isn’t easy but extra hands and smiles make the hard work much lighter ❤️

Thank you to everyone who purchased a New Sunsets 2024 calendar to help raise money for our precious animals on the farm!

The printing company made an error, and shipped our original order of calendars with 2023 dates, so there will be a small delay while the correct calendars are reprinted and shipped. We hope to have all the calendars out to you within the next two weeks.

A little rain never bothers a barn kid 🌧️

Our Pony Pals session this week focused on identifying facial markings on the New Sunsets horses. Each student was able to complete an identification card and drawing of the unique facial markings of the barn horses. After spending some time grooming their favorite horse, our older riders each partnered with a younger student to help complete a barn scavenger hunt. And of course we had to round up the chickens and gather our eggs! Then we had to make sure all our four legged friends got a healthy dinner and dry clothes for the night. Last to do was measuring out the feed for tomorrow morning so everyone’s pans are prepped and ready to go for breakfast!

Thanks to all the barn kids (and intrepid barn parents) for coming out in any weather for learning fun with the animals!

Welcome our new resident at New Sunsets - Stormy!

Stormy is an 11 yr old chocolate palomino quarter horse on loan from her owner. She is an accomplished reiner, and has most recently been a broodmare, passing along her gentle temperament and work ethic to the next generation of competition quarter horses.

Stormy has been picking up the therapeutic lesson life very quickly, and we are thrilled to see her and our lesson students thriving in this new partnership.

This week as we reflect and give thanks, our hearts are full of all the love and memories that our friend Yoda gave us. 🍂

As many of you know, the month of October was dedicated to our dear Yoda, and on the 27th we laid him peacefully to rest. Yoda gave selflessly for so many years to countless therapeutic lesson students. We knew that he deserved to go on a good day, and while care and careful management can give us time, unfortunately it can’t give us forever.

We are so thankful for the love and support that was shown to Yoda and the team at NSE as we shared this news. His last month was spent enjoying his favorite warm fall weather, taking hand walks and last rides, and receiving countless visitors coming to pay their respects with peppermints and pats.

Yoda has left an indelible mark on our hearts and will always inspire us to keep working towards our mission with compassion and kindness.

His life was an incredible gift and even though we are heartbroken to not have him here, we will continue to celebrate his life and memory as we move forward.
