We’re getting excited to jump this weekend in the International Dog Sports Dock Diving Championships this weekend. Here’s a little clip of our practice this week!
Fly far, Finn!
After some playtime in the yard we took Callie out for a walk! This is what a walk should be: calm, quiet, enjoyable for everyone. Enjoyable walks mean there are more of them and a more fulfilling life for pups and their owners ❤️🐶
We love watching our training pups progress and showing their owners what they’re capable of! Callie heads home in a few days after a fun couple weeks!
Here you see me calling her from Place to Place along with some Downs. Practicing inside and outside helps her understand that we need her to listen wherever she is!
Callie’s listening skills are looking sharp! We’re working fully off-leash now so she gets to enjoy the yard to its fullest! Trained dogs get more freedom and more fun!
Callie is learning to prioritize listening to us which means she gets more freedom to be a dog. ❤️🐶
Callie’s skills are coming along nicely! She’s out in the yard with our pups roaming but learning to prioritize us over other distractions. We have the long line on in case she needs guidance but we didn’t need to!
You see us correct her for getting off and then she hops right back on. Now the real work begins, holding her accountable and helping her stick to what she knows despite everything else going on!
So proud of this girl!
Callie is moving along in training and doing great! We’re on day four of layering the E-collar over all our on leash commands so that her owners can communicate with her off leash. This is her first time with us dropping the long line which can be a challenge for lots of dogs because they have to do more of the work and resist their impulses to go to anything other than working with us!
Initially she’s not sure but you can see in the second clip she’s much more confident. Now we keep practicing inside and outside, getting many more reps in so that listening to us becomes her default! Inside we’re working her on around a 4/100 and outside 8 or 9/100. Super low levels allow us to tap her on the shoulder but not overwhelm her!
We do the hard work of lots and lots of reps during the board and train so that our training pups have a good understanding of what we’re asking! Then we transfer it over to her owners so they know exactly how to follow through!
She’s a rockstar! 🌟
We’re working on Callie’s door manners while she’s here! No door dashing for this girl! We do this exercise every time we go outside so she gets lots of practice!
We have her on a long line to allow her to make the choice of staying inside despite the open door while using the leash to help her make the right choice. We also practice calling her away from the door to see if she overrides her desire to dash out the door.
Moving right along with Callie! Today we introduced the E-collar, layering that tactile stimulation on top of the leash pressure to help her understand what to do when she feels it. We’re working with her on a 4 out of 100 and she’s doing great!
We’re rewarding with food BUT are making sure it’s helping rather than making it harder for her. We’re also rewarding for her holding commands rather than her sitting or getting in Place for the treat and getting off.
These little shifts are the difference between a dog who doesn’t know how to sit still and one that realizes that stillness gets rewarded and feels good!
We’ve started Callie working on Place, Sit, and Down using leash guidance first. Everything starts on leash so that we can teach and reinforce what we’re asking BEFORE and then we can transfer that learning to the language of the E-collar. I’m using the Cato board to help her get some body awareness and make it clear when she steps off.
Mocha’s listening skills are looking sharp these days! When she first arrived I could tell she was used to doing her own thing but by starting her training on- leash first and using a long line as we started to transition to off-leash, she’s learned that humans are relevant and that when we ask her to do something it’s non-negotiable! She’s also much more comfortable and motivated to move quickly towards us now that she’s getting to a healthier weight!
We like to warm her up in the yard first with some coming when called with us holding the end and once she’s doing that with minimal guidance, we drop the long line. We always suggest keeping the long line on longer than you think you need it!
Tomorrow we fill her owners in on how to keep up everything she’s leaning here and make sure she continues her good behavior!
Here we have Mocha working on Recall and Place inside! She’s rocking and rolling now!
One of the things Mocha’s owners wanted was a nice Heel walk! Here we’ve got her on her prong and E-collar and she’s doing a great job! We tap the E-collar if she gets out of position and guide with the leash. The biggest thing is being consistent!
She’s come a long way since she arrived ❤️🐶we love seeing the transformation!
