This is a long post and a little graphic but please read. Only posting for awareness.
So about Wednesday I noticed Boomer messing with his back end a little, in Thursday again so I looked because he had a hotspot there last year and when I took him to Audabon in Philippi they shaved it up and sent him home with spray and it healed up quick and I kept the spray. So on Thursday afternoon I sprayed him with. Friday morning he didn't act well at all so I tried to wash it up before I left and he had it in a matted mess so I thought I'll just shave it off this evening so I can treat it better. Evening came and I set out here with him to cut it. He was feeling even worse. When I really got in there and was cutting I noticed there were maggots. I freaked and ran and got Ty to come help me. When he came down to help the more we did the worse it was. Mind you, there was no smell or sign of them until we set down there and started working on him. And we are around him ALL the time. Several know Boomer and know if you are here he gives you no choice but to be close to him. Lol. Ty and realized he needed immediate attention and I called the Emergency clinic in fairmont to see if I could bring him and they said yes. I took off around 8. When we got there Boomer didn't even try to walk. I was for sure we may not have a good out come. Once they got in there they had to completely shave his body because they were crawling all over him in his hair.
They took great care of him and sent us home at 2 am with meds and he still was not feeling good at all. Finally yesterday evening he walked around with me outside and this morning he followed me like every other morning to take care of the animals. Head hung low but definitely an improvement.
I've had and bred dogs my entire adult life. NEVER EVER HAVE A SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS.
I'm only posting to say that this is a heavy fly season and if you have a heavy haired dog or cat to watch for anything like this. I would have never guessed we would find what found. They would have literally ate him alive. They vet , Dr Harvy, said they have seen several cases of this this year. Especially in cats.
Yes the emergency clinic was a little pricey, but they are what they say. Emergency clinic! So Thankful for them. They were wonderful. First time ever using them. We deal with several vets but it was Friday evening and I figured it would take awhile and Boomer didn't have time.
Here are just a couple pics of poor Boomer now. I'm just so happy I feel he is going to be ok.
I didn't take before pics bit they would have been too rough to post anyways.
