For those of you who have been following the tragic loss of K9 Preacher of the Maine State Police, please see the information below if you would like to watch the livestream of the burial and memorial service.
Thank you to all who have sent well wishes to Sgt Russell, his family and the extended MSP family.
Honoring K9 Preacher šāš¦ŗ
Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12, 2025 we will come together to honor the life and service of K9 Preacher, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The funeral will be held at The Point in South Portland at 11:00 AM, where hundreds of law enforcement officers from across New England will pay their respects to K9 Preacher, Sgt. Jonathan Russell, his family, the Maine State Police K9 Unit, and Tactical Team.
The Point is livestreaming the services, and we invite everyone to watch at the link below ā¬
Our hearts are very heavy today here at Shamrock Animal Hospital. The Fagan's son in law, Sgt Jonathan Russell has been serving the Maine State Police and the great State of Maine as State Trooper and member of the state's K-9 unit and has been working since 2023 with his partner, Preacher, a 4 year old Belgian Malinois.
Yesterday, on February 3rd, Sgt Russell and Preacher were deployed as part of a tactical team responding to a domestic violence/hostage situation. Law enforcement had been called to resolve a domestic dispute between a female and a 29 year-old man. Upon arrival, the female had gotten out of the residence but the suspect was holding his 4-week old infant as a hostage.
After 4 hours of negotiations attempting to get the suspect to surrender, he exited the residence but resisted being taken into custody. Following a struggle with law enforcement the suspect pulled a gun on officers from the Aroostook County Sherriff's Office and Maine State Police. During this time, an Aroostook County Deputy was shot in the shoulder. We are happy to report that he has been treated and released from the hospital.
After disabling the suspect's vehicle, he attempted to flee on foot and K9 Preacher was deployed to assist in the apprehension. A second gun was pulled and Preacher was shot in the abdomen.
The suspect was then shot and pronounced dead at the scene. Preacher was immediately rushed into emergency surgery but succumbed to his injuries in the early morning hours of February 4th.
We talk a lot about service dogs through our involvement with Patriot Service Dogs, but we are also advocates for the working dogs that assist local, county, state and federal law enforcement offices in the protection of our citizens and involvement with Southern Coast K9 from New Smyrna Beach.
Our hearts are broken for Sgt Russell, his wife Sarah and his three young daughters. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming weeks as the Russell family, the MSP K9 unit and law enforcement agencies throughout Maine and New England who have counted and relied on Preacher's skills and abilities mourn this very tragic loss.
Thank you Preacher. Thank you Jonathan. And thank you to all of the teams of law enforcement K9 units throughout our country. We don't often show our appreciation for the incredible work that these dogs do to help keep our towns, cities, states and country safe.
Godspeed Preacher. Thank you for your service. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Hey nation! One of our favorite Patriot Service Dogs, Everlove, has moved from St Croix to Seward AK in the past year.
Please like and follow ATV Sewardās page so that we can get the word out for anyone you might know who is heading to Alaska. Seward is a common cruise ship stopping point for those on Alaskan cruises.
If you are booking a trip with ATV Seward, let them know that Dr Fagan sent you!

Today is a sad day for everyone involved in the PSD mission. While we often share the puppies that come into the program and the young dogs in training, today we mourn the loss of our friend, Whitman. He served as the mascot for Patriot Service Dogs and was the most popular guy at Lowell Correctional Facility.
There will never be another Whitman. Friend, inspiration, leader of puppies - Whit did it allā¦.

Well, it's the last day of the year and Chahlee is "on top of the world"! Actually, he was just fed up with the 8 dogs in the house for the holidays...
As we prepare for another trip around the sun, we wanted to take a moment to truly express our gratitude to our clients, our patients, our wonderful community and amazing business partners (IDEXX & Zoetis) for making the past 12 months another amazing year.
Your continued confidence in our amazing team at Shamrock Animal Hospital has allowed us to take care of more than 5,000 pets and able to see more than 13,000 appointments in 2024!
We also celebrated with Patriot Service Dogs as they celebrated their 15th Anniversary of providing highly trained service dogs to retired US Veterans. The work that is done throughout the community and the Lowell Women's Correctional facility (Florida Department of Corrections) with hundreds of volunteers throughout the Central Florida and Space Coast regions is one of the most truly rewarding parts of our work inside and outside the hospital.
2025 is already shaping up to be another years of announcements and milestones and we look forward to continuing to focus on the health and wellness of pets throughout Central Florida. Stay tuned as there are truly great things coming our way!
As you close the memory box of 2024, please accept our thanks and gratitude for being the BEST clients in the world. We hope that our efforts to keep your pets happy and healthy are allowing them to be amazing parts of our family.
By the time you are reading this, we have likely closed the office for the last time this year. While celebrating the New Year, we think the mission remains the same. Give your dog or cat a kiss & a hug from Dr. Fagan and remember:
Life's Just Better When Done With Pets!

Happy Tuesday nation! If you have spent enough time with any member of the Shamrock Animal Hospital family, you know that we operate in three different areas that compose our mission statement:
DO GREAT WORK
HAVE FUN
GIVE BACK
We hope that the first two are evident every time you come to visit us. And we hope that our mission of giving back is evident - especially the work we do with Patriot Service Dogs.
The other area that is very important to so many of us in the veterinary industry is the very serious topic of mental health. There is one organization locally that focuses on the mental health of our school-aged community member, the MIKE foundation.
So, on this Giving Tuesday, we ask that you consider donating (any amount) to one (or both) of these fantastic organizations so that they can continue their missions within our community.
Thank you for your consideration and we wish you and your families a very joyous holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dr. Fagan, Jeff and the entire team

We have been working for the last six years with Patriot Service Dogs and the work has been wildly fulfilling. We have also had the opportunity to learn even more about the history and legacy of the various branches of our armed services.
One of the more interesting things that we have learned is that, while tomorrow is Veteranās Day, November 10th is the recognized birthday of one of the fiercest and most revered military divisions the world has ever seen.
The first dog we ever directly placed into the PSD program, Everlove, has provided amazing support to Shawn and his family. So today, we are sure that Evv will be in the middle of a CRAZY celebration of the birthday of the United States Marine Corp.
Shamrock Animal Hospital and the entire team wants to thank Shawn and all of his Marine Corps brothers a very happy Corps birthday!

We know that the human-animal bond is something to be not only respected, but cherished.
Here in the South, where football is akin to religion, we share in the incredible loss of a canine personality that has reminded us of the incredible importance of the relationship that we all have with our pets.
Kirk Herbstreit, for the last few years, has demonstrated the importance and power of pets to make our lives whole.
Here at Shamrock Animal Hospital, our hope is that Kirk will know that the incredible loss that he is feeling today will slowly be replaced by the memory of better times with Ben.
We know that, when the time comes, they will be reunited without the stress and sorrow that Kirk is feeling tonight.
Kirk Herbstreit announced the passing of Ben, his dog who accompanied him to many college and pro football games.

**Communication Update**
We understand that it is difficult to get in touch with our office right now. Our internet and phone provider (we won't name names!) has been slow to respond to our connectivity outage and we are not expecting service back until tomorrow or Friday at the current time.
We thought that we would give you a couple of options to reach out to us, and we thank you in advance for your patience.
1) If you would like to schedule an appointment, food, medication refills or have a request for records, the most efficient way to do that is to use the Shamrock Animal Hospital app.
2) If you have a question about your pet, its treatment or other items, you can also email us at: [email protected]
3) If you don't have access to the app or email, please call the office at 352-483-2999 and follow the voicemail prompts. We have a tremendous backlog of voicemail messages that we have retrieved and we are working diligently to respond to everyone in the order that their messages were received.
4) If your pet is having a health emergency, you can bring your pet in to the hospital and we will do our very best to accommodate you in the fastest fashion possible.
We know and understand the frustration that this is causing for our clients and please know that we are likely more frustrated with the situation.
As we said above, we ask for your patience and understanding as it is a situation that is out of our control and we are doing our best to work around the challenges we are facing.
We will continue to keep you all updated on the status of our situation daily until it is resolved.
Sincerely,
Your Shamrock Living Team!

**HAPPY POST-MILTON THURSDAY** OPENING AT 2PM
Here's Atlas, aka "Stinky". He weathered the storm with the Fagans along with 5 dogs and another cat - oh - and five humans.
First of all, we hope that everyone in our community weathered the storm well. A short drive from home to the office saw a lot of limbs down and a couple of trees that didn't fair so well, but we are sure that there is more significant damage in our community that we did not come across.
We were also very encouraged by the fact that we saw crews out and about clearing drains and working to bring local travel back to some sort of normalcy.
We have just done an inspection of the hospital. We are running on generator power through the entire building and have a few tree limbs down in the parking lot. We will be monitoring the app, Facebook and email if you need to reach us.
We will have multiple staff members here from 2pm-6pm today if anyone has any need to be seen. We are also available to check microchips on any pets that may have been separated from their families due to the storm.
If you don't have the app or access to email, please call the office and leave a voicemail message and we will make every attempt to get back to you before the end of the day.
If there is anything you need, Shamrock is here to assist. Only a phone call away!

We were looking for some ideas to kill time while we all wait for the storm to arrive. Chahlee had the best idea. A family game of Monopoly!
**SHAMROCK ANIMAL HOSPITAL IS CLOSED AT THIS TIME**
As we begin to see the rain falling a bit harder and anticipate the wind to kick up at some point in the next couple of hours, we have closed the hospital for the safety of our staff members.
Based on the current information we have, we will be closed on Thursday morning, October 10th.
PROVIDED THAT IT IS SAFE FOR OUR STAFF TO GET TO THE HOSPITAL, WE WILL EXPECT TO BE RE-OPENING AT 2PM ON THURSDAY.
Please note that we posted information for the new location of the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Fruitland Park. We have been informed that they will not be open during the storm due to the fact that they have not yet installed a generator at their new facility.
For those of you who require urgent/emergency care for your pet prior to re-opening, we wanted to update the emergency care facilities that are available to you:
Animal Emergency Hospital - Deland
3100 E New York Ave
DeLand, FL 32724
386-252-0337
Depending on your location, you may also consider:
Veterinary Emergency Group
1490 West Fairbanks Ave
Winter Park, FL 32789
407-992-7753
We have had a number of clients use this new facility in Winter Park and have gotten very positive feedback on the service they provide.
We hope that everyone is prepared and we encourage you to stay safe.
In the event that you would like to reach out to us during the storm, we will be monitoring messages on the Shamrock Animal Hospital App and our general email: [email protected]
All the best~

Mixing up the photos here today. Lacie loves all of our clients so can you imagine how much love this pack of dogs gets?!?!?!?
**OPERATING HOURS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH**
It seems that Milton is potentially slowing down but, as we all know, timing and severity of storms can change almost by the hour.
We will be open Wednesday morning at our normal opening time of 8am. We will remain open until we anticipate that the conditions are predicted to become unsafe. We definitely suggest getting in touch with us in the morning if you have anything that needs to be addressed with your pets.
Our hospital is supported by a backup generator so all of our boarding pets will be safe and sound. If you have a last minute boarding need, please give us a call and we can try to accommodate your pets.
If you are wondering whether or not we are still open, please check this page as that seems to be the most effective way to communicate with everyone in real time.
As we roll through the day tomorrow, we hope to have a better idea as to what Thursday will hold for us in terms of operating hours. Once we have determined that it is safe for our staff members, clients and community members to be on the roads, we will open the hospital.
NOTE: For those of you who have used the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Leesburg, please note that they have moved into a new facility in Fruitland Park. The address is:
913 Village Park Drive
Fruitland Park, FL 34731
Phone: 407-644-4449
Alternately, 24 hour emergency care is also available at the Animal Emergency Hospital of Deland. That address is:
2100 E New York Avenue
Deland, FL 32724
Phone: 386-252-0337
Whenever possible, we will be available here at the office during our normal operating hours. The safety and welfare of our staff and clients is always the first priority.
In the event that you have a question or concern, the two best ways to reach us during the storm is either through the Shamrock Animal Hospital App or via email at: [email protected]
We will also be checking our voicemail regularly if you call and don't get to speak to us directly.
Be the first to know and let us send you an email when Shamrock Animal Hospital posts news and promotions. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
What do you do when you combine a Floridian (and huge Florida Gator fan), a New Englander (who lives and dies by where the Red Sox are in the standings), 6 kids, 4 dogs, 1 cat, a large number of colorful fish and a pocket full of dreams for the future?
You become the owners of Shamrock Animal Hospital, of course.
Having met in 2014 and married in 2015, there was always something āmoreā in our marriage. As we moved along in time, we realized that Raquelās dream of owning her own animal hospital, and more than 20 years as a veterinarian, where she could do it āher wayā and Jeffās background in customer service, hospitality, sales & marketing and real estate were a very interesting blend. When we started putting it all together, we developed our own recipe for not only delivering great veterinary care, but also for enhancing peopleās lives by enjoying it with their pets.
We spent dozens of late nights discussing what we thought our version of a āpet lifestyleā would be.
What kind of facility we would want to build?
How would we want our employees to interact with our clients?
How would we want our clients to interact with us?
Where would our hospital even be?
Then it happenedā¦onlineā¦the same way we met in 2014!
It started as a simple little email saying that there was an animal hospital for sale in Central Florida. The next piece of information told us that it was in Mount Dora ā one of our favorite day-trip towns. Next, we saw the facility and talked to people about the hospital. AND, it was called Shamrock! What could be luckier than that for an Irishman like Jeff? The match could not have been more perfect.
Within 8 weeks, we had both quit our jobs and started our new journey of #shamrockliving. We both checked items off our professional bucket list. Raquel had a practice that she could call her very own and Jeff had a job where he could bring his dog to work everyday! There hasnāt been a single day that we have ever looked back.
You see, in the grand scheme of things, we really think that our pets have it right.
Play, eat, sleep, loveā¦repeat everyday. We could all probably take a few lessons from them!
Until we see you next ā give your dog a hug or your cat a kiss from us! And please remember what we say, āLifeās Just Better When Done With Petsā.
