We’ve had a rough start.

Our little lamb is malnourished, weighing in at 8.4 lbs at 8 weeks old. He is shaky, not steady on his feet, and had 2 brief seizures. He is eating less than we want him too, and he’s spiked a fever. He also has a cloudy eye. He is still getting used to this new situation and needs some good solid rest once he settles in a little more.

He has been started on antibiotics, NSAIDs, vitamin b, ointment for his eye, nutritional supplements, and feedings every 4 hours of a special mixture to get him some calories and energy. So far, he’s willingly accepting help and showing a will to live. We will be keeping a close eye on his condition, and if he shows any signs of worsening we will have to decide what is best for this baby so he doesn’t suffer.

He’s very happy with his new Mama Bear and dog bed.

Keep praying!! 🙏 THANK YOU ALL so much for all the love. 💕 🐑🍼

Sometimes life gives you lemons, sometimes it gives you…. Sheep 🐑

Our newest rescue is a failure to thrive triplet. His prognosis is very poor at this time, but we are going to do what we can for him while he still has a quality of life. No barn time for this little lamb!! He’s right at home with the Mules N More crew…. Litterally!! He came home with us to receive the round the clock care he needs.

Say a prayer for this little fella 🙏💕🐑

This time of year tends to be slower for us as a rescue. When our rehab cases build up, we don’t have a lot of animal movement in and out. We are focusing really hard on Blossom’s socialization and handling skills, Duke’s white line disease, and June’s weight gain. All these things unfortunately just take time.

Time that we are able to give these animals every day because of YOU GUYS!

Today I spent a little extra time loving on this girl. June got a little hair cut to make her mane nice and even(ish) 🤣, and a nice long grooming to show off how good she is looking. I may even see a little top line starting to come in!! We are super proud of how much weight this mare is gaining.

We are so grateful for the community standing behind us and I know the animals are too.

We are nice and prepped for the winter storm coming. Being from Connecticut helps us know what to do in the coming conditions. Wish us luck and safety!! ❄️☃️

As we settle into the new year, we reflect on everything Mules N More has accomplished in 2024. We opened in March, we have saved lives, and we have given second chances. We wish we could save them all, but it makes all the difference for the ones we can save. Without our strong community, friends, and family behind us as our backbone, none of this would be possible.

Our nonprofit organization is driven by a passion for animal welfare and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need. In 2024, we were successful in that mission. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.

We look forward to an AMAZING 2025. We have some big things already in the works.

Your Mules N More Team 💕

P.S.- if you did not get a Christmas card and would like one please send us your address!! We are still building our contact list and don’t have many of your addresses ✨

June and Duke both saw the farrier today for the first time and they were superstars!!!! ✨🫏🐴

June has some of the best looking feet on the farm. They are beautiful, round, and in great shape.

Duke on the other hand, has the worst. We knew he had white line disease and today we got to find out the extent of it. His front left is the worst. The bacteria ate away a decent portion of his toe under the hoof wall. The farrier removed the hoof wall and most of the dead/infected tissue so we can treat it thoroughly from the inside out. His front right is starting to develop the same thing. If you look at the last picture, you can see the hole right on the tip of his toe. This is how it starts and it’s easily missed if not providing daily hoof care and a farrier visit every 6-8 weeks.

It is a very common misconception that donkeys do not need the same hoof care as horses and this is not true. Maintaining good hoof hygiene, keeping their feet as dry as possible, and feeding an appropriately balanced diet can help prevent things like this from happening. We always recommend consulting with a well trained farrier and following their recommendations for hoof care/frequency of hoof trims on a case by case basis. Not all hooves are the same!

Duke will require daily hoof treatments to get him there, but he is expected to make a full recovery!! ❤️‍🩹 Thank you S23 Farrier Service!!!

Mr Duke earned a gold star today!!! He was seen by our favorite, Dr. Megan, and got his teeth floated, shots, coggins, and dewormer! He has a small injury on his back leg and he has white line disease in his feet that will all be treated over the next few weeks. On our way towards adoption day for this guy! 💕🫏

All the equines are enjoying some dry time inside today to give their hooves a break from the mud. I love happy hay munching sounds 😍🐴🐎🫏

The rain is still ongoing here in Mount Juliet, but everyone has plenty of dry spots to get out of the rain and mud. The pigs were happy to come out of the barn to enjoy breakfast this morning in the lull between storms 💕🐷

Everyone please help us officially welcome Duke the donkey 💕

He was surrendered by a family who loved him very much. He has lived at the same home since he was a baby (he is around 22-23 years old) so coming to the Mules N More farm is a big change for him. Benji and Blossom are already helping him settle in!

Welcome Duke 🤴
