Dear Pet Parent,
I know you waited longer than expected today. I saw you checking your watch and we wanted to apologize. 🥺
While you were waiting, our vet was holding the hand of a young girl as she said goodbye to her childhood friend of 14 years. Her cat had been there for every birthday, every triumph, every tear. Some goodbyes can't be rushed.
While you were waiting for our doctor to call back, our doctor was watching two young sisters eager to learn how to care for their first puppy. He answered their endless questions because he remembers being that same excited child once.
And yes, there was that emergency today. A mother dog struggling to deliver her puppies, fighting for not just one life but four. Our team stayed well past closing, their own dinner growing cold at home, to bring three tiny puppies safely into this world. And right after that our doctor performed another surgery to help a dog who had been attacked by javelinas.
You see, in veterinary medicine, there are no specialists waiting down the hall. Our vet is the surgeon, the radiologist, the dentist, and the shoulder to cry on. They're the bearer of both wonderful news and heartbreaking decisions. They're the teacher, the healer, and sometimes, just the person who sits on the floor with you while you process difficult news.
We know your time is precious. We feel the weight of every minute you wait. But we also know that someday, it might be your beloved pet who needs those extra moments of care, those additional explanations, or that emergency procedure. And on that day, we'll give you and your pet all the time you need, just as we did for others today.
So next time you visit us, know that if we're running behind, it's because someone needed us just a little bit more right then. Every delay has a story of love, loss, healing, or hope behind it. That's the beautiful, messy, heartbreaking, joy-filled world of caring for the animals who make our lives complete.
