😺Tips for a purr-fect vet visit!

😺At VCA Mount Kisco, we are proud to have Fear Free Certified Veterinarians! This means our Veterinarians and support staff are trained in providing clam care ensuring the least amount of stress for your cat. Here are some helpful tips:

😺Pick the right carrier. Make sure your cat carrier is:
Made of sturdy plastic that is washable and easy to clean.
Has holes to allow for circulation of air, but is not too see-through so your cat can still feel secure.
Has a detachable lid that means the vet can remove the top and examine the cat in the base of the carrier.

😺Train your cat to use the carrier.
You need to break the association between the carrier and a scary visit to the vet, and make new, positive associations with it as a place to relax and eat treats in. Find a place in your house where the cat carrier can live all the time and be a place that your cat might enjoy. Consider placing their favorite blanket inside so they feel comfortable. Once your cat ventures into the carrier on their own, reward them with treats! You may also place their favorite toys inside.

😺Train your cat to be handled.
You could gently look in their ears, lift the tail up, and get them used to being groomed or even to have their teeth brushed.
Remember to make sure it is a positive experience. Pick a time when they are receptive to being handled, and be very gentle with them.
Keep each session very brief so they does not get fed up. Remember to go at the cat’s pace, ensure it is pleasant for the cat at all times, and be very generous in using treats and petting to keep the cat happy.

😺Use bedding inside the carrier that your cat has slept on, not a clean blanket or towel. Their scent will help them feel safe.

😺Bring treats to your appointment to reward the experience during the appointment.

😺Feliway spray replicates a calming feline pheromone that can be used on bedding to help your cat feel calmer.

💉August is National Immunization Awareness Month! Just like us, it's important for our pets to stay current with vaccines and immunizations. Giving your pets their regular vaccinations is the key to a long and healthy life. Regardless of whether your pet ventures outside or is indoor only, vaccines are essential in ensuring your pet's health.
🐶Boarding kennels, dog parks and grooming salons are high-risk environments, thus making sure your pet is fully vaccinated before visiting such places can give you peace of mind. Remember that certain vaccinations may need an additional booster, and others may need a few days to a few weeks before becoming effective, so check with your vet before taking your recently vaccinated pet to any of these places.
✨Celebrate National Immunization Awareness Month by booking an appointment with us to make sure your furry friend is healthy and up to date on all their vaccinations!

🔥Keep your pets safe this summer!🔥

🐾Did you know cats and dogs can only sweat from their paw pads? This can make it more difficult for them to regulate their body temperature on hot days, especially while in direct sun or in enclosed spaces like your car.
🚗 NEVER leave your pet in your vehicle for even a few minutes! View the slides above to see how quickly your car can heat up.
🌡️Make sure your pet has access to fresh water at all times, as well as a ventilated space indoors and access to shade while outdoors. You may consider only going outdoors in the early morning and around dusk when the temperatures are more manageable.

🐶Today is National Rescue Dog Day! Here at VCA Mount Kisco we are thrilled to celebrate and educate on the benefit of adoption. There are so many reasons to adopt, and here are just a few:

🐶Each year 8 to 12 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are euthanized because there are simply not enough homes for them. By adopting, you are saving a life and helping to break the cycle of pet overpopulation and make room for more animals to be saved.

🐶Did you know there are also breed-specific rescues? This is a perfect solution for those who want to welcome a specific breed into their home, but also understand the benefit of adoption.

🐶By adopting from a shelter or rescue organization, you are supporting a valuable charity and community institution and also sending a message to others who will be asking you for years to come where you obtained your adorable pet.

Do you have a rescued pet? Put them in the comments below! 😄
