In the Beginning...
Our beginning started with our sincere love of dogs. I grew up with dogs and while some popular spectator sports weren’t common in my house while I was growing up, one event was a tradition, The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which was televised annually. I grew up pouring over dog magazines like “Dog World” admiring the many beautifully displayed dogs. What I couldn’t decide is what breed did I like the best. My family & I owned many breeds while I was growing up including a German Shepard, Cairn Terrier, Beagle, Shiba Inu, Japanese Chin, and several rescue mixed breeds. My husband, Joel, owned a large terrier-like breed named Tyler that weighed over a hundred pounds which was a bit large for me. I rescued a Beagle (S***t) in the early 2000’s and my son , Nathan, brought the dog to our local dog training club as a young pre-teen to a beginning obedience training class. I was introduced to the dog club by a co-worker who bred and showed German Shepards and she thought dog related activities would be a good sport for my shy son. . One early Saturday morning I got a phone call from the dog club presidenet that S***t has “failed beginning obedience” but that one of their volunteers was willing to work with my son to train S***t one-on-one. One thing led to another and Nathan was introduced to a local Shiba Inu breeder, Pam Peterson, and my son started showing in UKC and AKC Junior Handling competitions soon followed thereafter by my daughter when she was old enough at 8 yrs old. Thus started the show circuit for me and my then young family with Nathan showing dogs and my daughter showing her first Junior Handler dog, a Shiba Inu named Toby. In 2006 I started to get serious to start breeding as a hobby but still needed a “favorite” breed. Then we met the Glen of Imaal Terrier at our home town AKC dog show and low and behold, it was a miniature version of my husband’s favorite pet, Tyler! We fell in love with the Glen of Imaal Terrier and the rest is history. Our 2 founding pets to this hobby breeeding endavor are in the above photo, S***t & Toby, who are now over the “rainbow bridge” but will never be forgotten!
