Our Story
The Paw Plaza Hotel was founded by Melanie J. Scofield in February 2001. For years,
Melanie had been searching for a kennel that had all of the comforts of home and a loving staff to ensure that her pet would be well taken care of while she was out of town. Unfortunately, she never found one. Most of the kennels that she had visited seemed too cold and sterile. She thought that there had to be a better way to board pets that also gives the owners peace of mind while they are away from their furry friends.
In 1998, Melanie began wondering if she, herself, could start a boarding kennel in her own area and make it a place that she would feel comfortable leaving her own pet. She began researching kennels across the U.S. and found that very few offered a more āupscaleā approach to pet boarding. After extensive research, Melanie decided to do a market survey of Charleston, SC, to see if there was a demand or need for the type of kennel she envisioned. When the results of the survey came in, Melanie could not have been happier! She then began turning her vision into a reality, and thus, the Paw Plaza Hotel was born in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
